Danny was now out of ideas, no money and no job. He was so upset. Now he doesn't have the money for the treatment for his wife's cancer and he can't afford to keep his house. Danny, stud up, grabbed his keys and walked to his car. He unlocked it and drove to the nearest bar, hoping there would be any job opportunities. He walked in and went up to the bar tender.
"Pardon me sir, I was just wondering if you had any job opportunities on offer?"
The bar tender shook his head. Danny collapsed onto a seat in despair. He put his head in his arms wondering what he could do. There was a man siting next to who saw that Danny really needed some money. He stood up and walked up to Danny and said,
"Hey, mate. I can get you some money."
Danny looked up at the stranger. He was confused why a random man had just came up to him and now he's had an idea to get money.
"Ye. I work for the royal marines in Afghanistan. You can earn some money there. Here take this card, it has the postcode for the place where you apply." Said the man.
The man walked away and out the door. Danny picked up the card and put it in his pocket. As he put it in though he felt another piece of paper. It was the note from before. Danny looked at the clock, it was 12:45. It was a five minute drive back, but he also had to clean himself up. Danny left the bar and ran to his car. He turned the key and drove back to the house. Once he got there, he found his wife on the sofa, sleeping. She must have got home early as it was only 12:50. Danny found a blanket and put it over his wife then went into the kitchen to found his lunch had been made for him. He picked it up and sat down in his office. He took out the card that the man had given him from before. He looked at it for about ten minutes then all of a sudden he heard his wife coming into the office. She saw that he was holding the card.
"What's that?" She said
There was a long silence until Danny finally said,
"I was fired from my job today. I've been trying to find a new one all day. There was nothing. I went to the pub in town to see if there was any jobs. Nothing. Then a man gave me this card. He works for the Royal Marines in Afghanistan. I think it's the only way we're going to get the money for your treatment."
She stood there in complete silence then a tear ran down her face. Danny walked up to her, grabbed her shoulder and whispered in her ear,
"Everything's going to be alright."
Danny walked past her and lay down on the sofa and though long and hard about what he was going to do. Hours passed. The kids had just come back from school and where up in there bedroom playing together. Even more hours passed and this time Danny had made his decision, he was going to join the army.
He called his wife and his kids. They came to him wondering what has happened.
"I've been thinking for a long time now. And this wasn't the easiest decision I've had to make before but, I'm joining the army. I'm going for an interview tomorrow." He said.
They all looked at him as if they didn't know what to say. The kids went back to their beds and his wife sat on the sofa. Silence ran through the house as Danny was wondering if he had made the right decision.
