Chapter Eighteen: Sex is certainly no medicine.
(A picture of Rueben above)
I was laid in bed with a bucket at my side trying to get some sleep when there was a knock at the door.
“Come in!” I called, sitting up.
“Hey, Flora. It’s lunch so I thought I would come and see how you are doing.” James greeted me as he stepped inside.
He shut the door behind him and sat on the edge of my bed. “I thought I was only hung-over! Obviously not.” I sighed, rubbing my forehead.
“I guess you just got unlucky.” He shrugged and I nodded in agreement.
“Well, I don’t think Monty’s drinks helped either!” I quietly chuckled.
James laughed, “Not surprised! It is Monty we are talking about.”
I nodded, “I might not know him that well but I know what he can be like.”
We sat on my bed talking until it was time for James to go. I was sad when he left because I was alone but felt too ill to move. I was lonely and wanted some company which I had to wait until 2.30pm for!
After my boredom was driving me insane, I decided to try to sleep and luckily it worked. I was soon dreaming. Well, that was until I heard noises and it woke me up. I felt like I had had a decent amount of sleep so it wasn’t too bad, but I was still irritated to say the least and looked for where the noise was coming from and who was making it. It didn’t take me long to find out that the noise was coming from the window and I knew that one of my brothers had to be making the noises.
I opened my curtains and looked to find a bat – Rueben.
Rueben: I heard you were ill and came to check on you and make sure that you are okay.
Me: I’m not dying, so I’m okay.
Rueben: Good to hear. Can I come in?
Me: Do you really want to risk it?
Rueben: But I want to see my sister. I miss you. (Que puppy-dog eyes)
Me: Fine! Now be quick.
I opened my window and let him in. When he was inside he turned back into human form and I went to my bed and sat on it.
“So, this is what you were dying to stay here for? A hospital-like room that smells like rotten cabbages?” Rueben chuckled, sitting on my bed.
I rolled my eyes, “I can decorate it if I want, which I will do at some point.”
“Oh, well, thank God.” He laughed, pretending to wipe a tear away.
“Calm down, Rue.” I smiled, “How has everyone been?”
He rested his back against the wall like me. “Everyone I fine. We all miss you lots though.”
It made me feel good to know that they miss me. “Aww, that’s nice.”
“How have you been then?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Well, I’ve been great! This place is amazing and the people in it are pretty cool. I feel shit today but that isn’t related to the school.” I replied, playing with the sleeve of my blazer.
I had forgotten to take my uniform off and was sort of feeling uncomfortable wearing it.
“Do you mind if I change into some normal clothes? This uniform isn’t that comfortable to rest in after all.” I asked Rueben.
