[Working title – likely to change] How far did the development of Medicine in the Golden Age of Islam influence modern medicine practices?

Radiating from the Arabian Peninsula, Islam spread reaching all different aspects of the world. In the Golden Age of Islam, the extent and strength of Muslim achievement in almost every area was unsurpassed worldwide. This was quite evident in the fields of sciences and the arts. The Islamic world shined brightly especially as it stood out from its main contestant at the time, Christianity. Europe was darkened by ignorance and incomprehension, facing one of its hardest eras the Middle ages or more commonly referred to as the Dark ages. Yet this has not affected the efforts of the many Muslims across the world nor did it limit their expertise - scientists, mathematicians, astronomers, doctors, and engineers transformed the Islamic world and ultimately helped stimulate the European Renaissance. However, in the field of medicine how far did the Muslim development, growth and advancement play a role in the development of modern medicine?
