I wake up to the sound of my phone's alarm. I check the time; 6:15 am. I hit snooze then role back in bed. Ten minutes later, my alarm goes off again. "Ugh" I groan then sit up on my bed. I turn my alarm off then hop out of bed.
Today's my first day of school; senior year. I'm glad it's my last year but I'm just not a morning person, most of the time anyways. Once I reach the kitchen, I pull out the cereal and poor myself a bowl of corn flakes.
"Hey, big day today!" My mom says as she enters the kitchen.
"Mom, I'm not 10. This isn't exciting like it used to be" I say as I put my bowl in the dish-water.
"It may not be for you, but it is for me!" She says with a smile. She's such a morning person compared to me and my brother. I think my brother is the worse. If you try to wake him up, he'll most likely pick you up and throw you in the neighbour's pool.
I head back to my room to get my things then head to the washroom to take my shower.
I decide to wear a blue t-shirt with some jeans and my black vans. After I turn my hair straightener on, I check the time. 7:16. I still have 40 minutes till I have to start walking to school. It takes me about 10 minutes to walk to school, but we usually stop at the small coffee shop across the school. We've had the same routine since freshman year, so I'm used to it. I walk to school with my brother, who is also a senior. We argue, like most siblings do, but when we aren't busy fighting we actually get along quite well, besides the fact that we are twins.
Once I'm done straightening my hair and applying makeup, I check my phone to see if I have any messages. I only have one, it's from my best friend, Alice. I slide the screen and enter my passcode to view the message.
*Hey! Are you excited for school?? ;p*
*Like heck I am -.-* I reply.
It's now 7:38 and I'm pretty much ready to leave, we still have 15 minutes though. I decide to go for a walk to pass time.
"Tyler! I'm going for a walk, I'll be back soon!" I yell before exiting the house.
Once I arrive at the end of the driveway, I take my phone out of my pocket and plug my earphones in. I turn the volume up high enough to hear the lyrics, but low enough to hear people talk.
After I start walking, I notice people bringing boxes in the house a couple doors down that has been for sale for I don't know how long. I've always loved that house. I personally think it's the nicest on our block, but they're all beautiful really. It's not too big, bigger then we could afford thought. Since my dad left us, my mom's been working two jobs to pay for bills and food. Me and my brother have small jobs too, we both work at a small grocery store. My shifts are usually Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, but because of school they're now every week night after school from 4 to 9:30 pm, and for my brother it's every weekend from 10 am to 5 PM.
I was too busy admiring the house that I didn't notice a woman smiling at me while heading to her car to get boxes from her vehicle to bring to the house.
"Sorry, I was just.. Admiring the house," I say with a weak smile. I'm not going to lie, there's no point really.
"It's okay, I stop and admire it too sometimes," she says with an even bigger smile then before. She seems really nice.
"Well, I'm Emma, I'm guessing you're the new neighbour. I live a couple doors down from here" I say with a smile while reaching my hand out to great her.
"Nice to meet you Emma, I'm Carmen. I'm glad to know I have friendly neighbours, at our old house I don't think I've ever spoken to half my neighbours, and we've lived there for 14 years!" She says and we both laugh.
