the impenetrable silence hung in the air, and none of them spoke a word. both boys were so lost in their thoughts, they nearly jumped out of their skin when the door slammed open.

"kyunkyungie!!"

jooheon launches himself at the sick boy, his dimples showing as he clung onto changkyun with a sigh of relief. "you're alright!" changkyun smiled to himself as he ruffled the elder's hair. "of course, i am!" he laughs.

"what happened though? minnie hyung called me and told me that someone said that you fainted! the teachers wouldn't even let me out to the toilet, so i wasn't able to sneak out to see you," jooheon ranted, and changkyun glanced up at hyungwon who was staring at jooheon with a look of awe, and a blush covering his cheeks.

"hi, you must be the friend minhyuk hyung spoke of! i am lee jooheon, kkunkkun's bestfriend.!" changkyun almost giggled as hyungwon became a stuttering mess, his entire face bursting into flames and changkyun could practically see the steam coming from his bright, red ears.

"i-ia .. i am- ch-chae hy-uh hyungwon.."

he introduced himself shyly, as jooheon continues to beam at him. seemingly oblivious to the red faced male in front of him.

"are you sick? your face is red," he asks, and changkyun couldn't help but crack a giggle. hyungwon shot him a glare, but jooheon was too naïve to notice. "you should rest up, if you're sick! you're in my advanced maths class, aren't you?" hyungwon just blushed more, looking at the ground like it's the most important thing in the world.

"we should get going," changkyun interrupted, hyungwon throwing him a grateful smile. "but he's sick, are you sure you can get home alone??" jooheon questions to which hyungwon nods. "i'll be fine." he mumbles out.

on the way home, changkyun stayed quiet. jooheon ranted about his day and how changkyun missed out on a memorable moment and stuffs.

"hey honey?" he stops when changkyun calls his name. "you are in advanced class with hyungwon, right? do you think you can find his number for him." jooheon tilts his head with confusion, and nods. "i can ask minhyukie hyung." he confirms, more to himself than changkyun. "why?" he pouts, and then grinned. "do you like him? where'd hyunwoo go?"

at the familiar name, changkyun felt the tickle of petals in his throat and he swallowed them down. he was so close to home, he can hold on just a bit longer.

"n-no, it's just that i haven't thanked him yet. if it hadn't been for him, i would have hit my head on the sink or something," he felt bad for lying, but changkyun couldn't tell his bestfriend yet.

not before asking google, or doing his own research.

"sure thing, kkunkkun! i'll send it to you tonight, okay?"

there was nobody home, which was a good thing for him. changkyun immediately marches into the toilet, kneeling over to empty the content rising from his throat.

"god, this feels awful." he thinks to himself, the second time he was bent over, vomiting in the toilet. it seems like, everytime he thinks or is reminded of hyunwoo, the flowers bloom as a reminder to his unrequited love.

he plops down on the bed, exhausted and opens his laptop. he searches up hanahaki, watching and reading through all the articles, stories and videos.

it really existed, which wasn't just hoax. the scar on hyungwon's chest was similar to the pictures, and the more he read about it, the more it scared him.

there was only 1% of the world which suffer from hanahaki, a rare disease that is born due to unrequited or one sided love. the disease leads to flowers blooming inside the lungs, and if not cured, can clog the throat and windpipe in a matter of approximately 1 month or 2. however, it maybe different for different people, the growth of these flowers could be slow or fast and is not contagious or hereditary.

it could happen to anyone. it could happen at anytime. flowers could bloom and choke you the day you fall in love, or maybe even years after.

hanahaki is unpredictable.

there are two ways to cure hanahaki;
1. get surgery and remove the flowers from your lungs: after the flowers are removed, there will be no existing feelings towards the one you loved, in rare cases, one maybe devoid of emotions as well. however, it will leave behind a scar that will stay forever.

2. the second option is to get your feelings reciprocated. as long as the person you love returns your love, the disease will cease to a stop in your body.

"the heck, this is so scary." changkyun yawns as he puts away the laptop and lays down on his bed. he can't get surgery, as he didn't want to lose his feelings for hyunwoo. on the other hand, he didn't know if hyunwoo will return his love.

as far as he's known, hyunwoo had never dated a boy.

"aaah, what do i do?" he asks himself, then sprung up to grab his phone on the charger. jooheon had indeed sent him the number, which made him grin. he could just ask hyungwon, but then again wouldn't it bring him bad memories?

didn't hyungwon say that he doesn't remember anything?

hi, it's changkyun. i searched a bit more about hanahaki, and well, i guess i wasn't dreaming.

should he send it? did it sound too informal? aish, why was he overthinking everything!

changkyun sighs, pressing send. after giving it another thought, he typed out another message.

to: hyungwonni
i won't give up my feelings for hyunwoo sunbaenim.

a smile flitted on his face, as he puts his phone back on charger and heading off to sleep.
