If mirrors could reflect more than just a person's appearance, then they would have been broken from the start in that circus. During the shows, the members were like fairy tales being, magical and stunning. Their aura made the children laugh and wonder. But that's what the director kept making everyone believe. In fact it was Noah's job to control the emotions of the audience,as his exhibition was always the first.
So while he was at the mirror he couldn't waste a moment. His bruise was still evident,as his trembling hands. He applied some white greasepaint over his face,on his left cheek a black tear gave him a gloomy aura. Also, his lips were as black as the long scar he drew on the right side of his face. His black jester attire perfectly followed the lines of his body. He though that he wasn't worthy of wearing colors, though his appearance made no difference, the audience loved him anyway. Not because of his performance, but thanks to his 'gift'. At first it was difficult to change the emotion of only a person,it gave him a bad headache. But after being forced and forced to perfect this power,he eventually became able to control more people's emotions all together. He just had to do it during his exhibition,it was enough to make the happiness and wonder spread until the end of the show.
After making sure that the bruise was totally covered by the greasepaint he left the mirror room, and reached one of the long wooden towers at the edges of the arena. The audience was waiting in the dark for the jester to arrive. While he was going up the ladder to reach the top he felt weak and achy.
I have no time to feel like this,I don't want to be a burden...
Both the towers had a small room on top of them, usually where most of the equipment was stored before being used for a performance.
When he arrived at the top, firstly he took his staff. It was a long piece of white wood with a big black rose on its peak, its thorns and leaves intertwined themselves all over the staff. The audience was waiting for him out of that room,so he wore his best smile and opened the door. This action was followed by cheering shouts and applauses. Noah wasn't the classical jester,he wore no three pointed hat and, especially,he always wore monochrome attires, but, even without using his powers, the pubblic thought he was somehow intriguing. Of course this quality skyrocketed when he used his secret ability, that was one of the reasons why the members hated him, jealousy.
This time the exhibition consisted of a stroll on a rope which overlooked the void. It was very high, but Noah didn't mind.
He made his first step, his staff firmly clutched in his right hand. After few steps he faced the audience and bowed at them. His smile was still there but something about him was changing, and together with him the pubblic was changing too. His eyes turned yellow and the pubblic was cheering him as if he was taking a stroll on a rope on the sun. The eyes were the key to that gift, just a look and the audience was more pumped than ever.
Though someone in the crowd looked different. It was a girl with a red hood covering a part of her face. She was smiling and she did look happy, but somehow she wasn't as excited as the rest of the audience. Her face filled Noah with doubt and for a second his smile disappeared, but then he finished his stroll with the same grace of a prince. Once inside the room on top of the tower his smile faded and he almost fell on the ground.
I need to find a place where I can rest, somewhere away from the other members. The mirror room.
Every member either was taking part of the show or they were waiting for their turn near the arena's entrance. They had no business upstairs in the backstage, for everyone had to be ready to take part at the entrance performance, just after Noah's one.
He let go of his staff and walked to the backstage, trying not to let his darkening vision lead the way to the wooden floor instead. All of his movements looked so slow and he always had to grab on to the wall or the handrail once he got on the metallic stairs. He opened the door and his knees fell on the floor. He couldn't even close the door, because darkness had already took all his senses.
