Harry was sitting in front of his computer, his face concentrated as he scrolled down the current webpage. Ann was sitting at her desk, her pencil tapping against the white painted wood as she was trying to concentrate on her homework, but couldn't because her very attractive next door neighbor was across from her.
Her nostrils flared and she stood up before running her fingers through her hair. She then rolled her eyes as she heard very loud music playing.
"You've got to be kidding me," she mumbled to herself before she picked up her phone, her fingers quickly tapping on Harry's name and pressing call.
He picked up on the third ring, and she watched him as he grinned and held it up to his ear. "Hello, Ann."
"Can you turn that music down?"
He puckered his lips and looked out the window and stared directly into her eyes. Her stomach felt weird. "What music?"
"Harry." She stated before he chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah. I'll turn it down."
"Okay thanks. By-"
"How are you?"
She was taken back by him interrupting her. "What?"
"How are you? How has your day been? What did you do?"
She sighed before sitting down. He turned towards the window and rested his elbows on the windowsill, his fist holding up his head.
"You really want to know all of that?"
"Well, of course."
She showed a small smile before biting her lip. "I'm good, yeah. Um, my day has been okay. Not much has happened. I sat out in my backyard on the porch swing and thought for a while, and then-"
"What did you think about?"
She blinked a couple of times and looked at him, seeing that he actually looked interested. "I thought about how much of a change this is. Going from a mobile home to a big house is...weird, you know?" Her eyes then shifted down to her desk and she shook her head lightly, a light chuckle coming from her lips. "Of course you don't."
He looked down also. "Yeah, I don't. I wish I did." She looked up and so did he, and their eyes met once again. "Same thing everyday gets boring, you know?" He smirked. "No, of course you don't."
She laughed then. "Don't mock me."
He playfully stuck his tongue out at her and she did the same to him, which cause him to laugh. Whenever he was done laughing, he had a small grin plastered on his face. "You know, this could be our thing."
Ann looked down at her paper. "What could?"
"Sitting in front of our windows, talking on the phone." He smiled just enough to show a little bit of his teeth. "It could be our thing."
"What if I want to call you at four in the morning?"
He sucked in some air through his teeth and sat back in his chair. "Well, then I guess I'll just have to answer."
"Really?" She asked.
"Really," he replied. "I promise that no matter what time of the day it is, I will answer my phone."
"And I promise the same."
He leaned forward, a smirk on his face. "So it's official." Ann's eyebrows narrowed. "It's our thing."
"Yes, it's our thing." She smiled and he sighed.
"Goodnight, Ann."
Their eyes were boring into each other and her lips shook as she said, "goodnight, Harry."
Harry then hung up and nodded at her before closing his curtains, the lights in his room going off a couple seconds later.
It's our thing.
