A gift from my grandparents on a bright afternoon
The sun the color of fresh honey
The leaves pale green just like my dad's watching eyes
There it stood, this curious new contraption
The bike was a stranger luring me to a brave new world
I got on and felt like a mighty hero riding into battle
My mom chasing behind like a duck with her ducklings
Then CRASH the bike collapsed and fell from beneath me,
The pain was killing me, my knee bleeding rivers
I wailed like a banshee and cried up a storm
Until my mom scooped me up, held me close to her heart, and told me to start again.
So I got back up on that big metal dragon
And I sped down the hill with a grin of satisfaction
The wind whipping and whistling by me whispering wishes not yet won.
