I'm toying with the idea that Cloud has two familiars. Junip, the annoying weasel, and Mint, the kind and caring fox. Not because "he's special" but because I'm his origin story, he died (that'll probably change at one point). Well, before he died he had to have a familiar. And the thing with familiars, is they technically don't die. When their partner dies, they just fade from existence. So, maybe when Cloud died, since he was coming back to life Mint never faded. So, confused, she just roams the Earth for about 100 years watching the different time periods and such. Then, once Mitty revived Cloud, Juniper was faded to existence, and Mint finds Cloud again because she can feel his energy. However, due to the fact that Cloud would have two familiars having a small fraction of his brain, he'd have constant headaches and migraines. I dunno, maybe???
