FIRED
"What?!" I cry looking down at the notice. "Fired?" Across the room, the assistant Ava is holding the same notice in her hand. My eyes scan the room and all around are people in dismay, creating bedlam throughout the whole office.
"Why?"
" Apparently the business has gone broke. Mr Sims has known about it for months, and hasn’t done anything, and the landlord says we have to be out by this afternoon!” I overhear two people talking.
“But what about the magazine?”
“It’s over. This was the last issue.” I lean in a little bit too far and they notice me and quickly scurry away.

That afternoon, the whole office is packed up, and in my hands is a box of my things.
"I guess this is it?" my voice breaks, and I try to hold back my tears. What are you going to do Holly? You'll be broke now. The negative voice inside my head yells. Don't worry Holly, the positive one empathises. You can always ask aunty Lou. Aunty Lou. Aunty Lou. That night, all I can think about is how I can work this into a conversation. 'Oh hey aunty Lou, I'm broke and I need money! 'Absolutely not. At 3am, after tossing and turning, I decide to text Lou, even though she won't get it until the morning.
"Hey I haven't seen you in ages, can we have lunch tomorrow?"
Her reply is almost instant.
"Yeah sure sweetie, and I'll bring little Luxy too!"
Why is she up now? Nevermind
"Sounds fun, see you in the morning!"
"Bye x"
I push open the door of the cafe, my eyes scanning the room for a familiar head of violet hair. Finally I find it, sitting at the back of the restaurant. I nod at the waitress, pointing to the booth. She ushered me to the table with a smile then left.
“Holly!” She turns around, and I smile.
“Aunty Lou, looking as good as ever.”
“Thank you darling, now I have a very excited little girl here with me, Lux? Luxy?” She bends down in her seat and puts her head under the table. “Luxy it’s Holly!” Lux pops her curly blonde head from under the table and grins widely.
“Howy!” she yells, and gives me a hug. I slide into the booth, next to Lux, and study Lou’s outfit. She’s wearing faded ripped skinny jeans, and a plain black ¾ t-shirt.
“So how’s your job going?” I ask
“It’s good, we just finished the Take Me Home Tour actually, just prepping before the Where We Are Tour, two weeks away!”
“Cool,” I stab at my Caesar salad, wondering when would be the right time to bring it up.
“How’s your job at the magazine?”
“Um…. Well, it was good, but we weren’t getting enough readers, so we had to… um… shut down.”
“God I’m so sorry!”
“Yeah, well now I’m jobless…” I trail off.
“Oh! Well how about you come work for me? Paul has been on my back about getting an apprentice, and none of them seem very nice,”
“Well, Okay!” I decide happily
“But the only issue is I need two of you, and I need to find someone, could you find another person?”
“Alright… maybe my friend Poppy could come along?” I suggest
“Sure!”

After saying goodbye, I get into my car and begin to drive to Poppy’s house. She’s going to be so excited. I take a couple of lefts and one right and I pull into Poppy’s apartment building, pressing the buzzer to get her to let me in.
“Hello?” a crackly voice comes down the line
“Poppy it’s me. Let me in, I have something to tell you!” and with that the door swings open, and I rush up the stairs.

Oookay, so that’s the first chapter! I know it’s kind of cheesy and not very well written but I had to get it out of the way so that the story can get moving! Anyway please remember to vote as I put so much hard work into this book and I can only hope that you guys like it!
