Annabelle looked at her reflection in the lake, her face had dirt splodges along with some bruises. There was a scar under her eye socket that she had scored from Morgarath's torturing. When she looked at herself she saw Annabelle, first girl ranger. She didn't see a princess in her. And, she never will. So, why was it so hard to tell the boys? She trusted them enough to tell them now. There was no way they could let it slip infront of Morgarath or a wargal, so why couldn't she tell them?
Annabelle rubbed her face angrily, hoping that by doing this all her problems would wipe away. But they didn't, they still stared at her right in the face. Annabelle let a small groan escape her lips, but was cut short when she heard a sound behind her. It was only a slight sound, and would be inaudible to a regular person. But, with Annabelle's specially trained ears, her practise had paid off. She stayed where she was, knelt down by the lake and carried on like she was before. She made herself look relaxed when really, her eyes were darting everywhere, looking for any sign of danger and kept her ears out, ready for any other sounds. A twig snapped quietly, making the unknown person to stop to see if Belle had heard it. But, she made sure she looked completely unaware, putting her fingers gently in the water, seeming deep in thought. A shadow appeared next to her, and she realised it was a male. She prepared her muscles without making it obvious, ready to pounce and when she saw the shadow reach a hand toward her and that's when she chose to pounce.
She leaped backward slamming into the attacker, grunting as they both hit the ground, but Annabelle didn't waste time and quickly pinned the arms of the attacker to the ground, using her left hand and right leg while she used her right hand to wrap her fingers around the attacker's throat.
Everything was a blur while doing this, that the attacker's face was unclear. Once everything stopped, she realised she had made a terrible mistake. she went wide-eyed as she stared into the shocked dark eyes of Devon. After the initial shock, Devon quickly shoved Belle off. "What the hell, Annalise?" Annabelle instantly felt the guilt starting to swallow her up as soon as her fake name was mentioned. "What has gotten into you? First your horse came and you went all weird when you saw your friend's name, then you pick a life threatening situation over safety and help, then you had a go at Logan for questioning your sanity and then you tackle me to the ground like I'm trying to kill you!" Annabelle ran her fingers through her messy hair.
"Okay, when you put it like that, it sounds crazy but-" Annabelle began, trying to make Devon see sense through what she was trying to do. But, Devon cut her off in mid-sentence.
"It is crazy! Don't you see? It doesn't sound crazy, it is crazy! Everything about this is crazy!" Annabelle avoided eye contact, seeing reason to what Devon was saying. It was silent between them for a while. Until the silence was broken by Devon's voice. "Me and Logan have decided to head back, warn King Duncan about Morgarath's construction and try and get my father back. But, Alex is still deciding. You're free to do as you choose, but as much as we are thankful for how many times you have saved our lives and how you've been training us, we're just not warriors. We aren't trained to fight like you." Annabelle perked her head up in surprise by what he said. 'we aren't trained to fight like you'. Devon saw Annabelle's confusion and continued speaking, avoiding any eye contact with her, and kept his gaze set on the lake.
"You didn't really think that I was that oblivious to this situation? When I found the oakleaf necklace the night you were kidnapped, I had a slight suspicion and my father, Scar always told me about the great enemy called: The green rangers of Araluen.
"He told me about the bows and arrows they could use so well and the years of training they went through to conquer abilities that were almost impossible. He told me about the oakleaf symbol and some tales about the ranger horses that were unpredictably fast. Scar would always scowl in disgust at how skilled the rangers were.
