"So, did you hear about Amy and Tyler?"  It was the last 15 minutes of school before Christmas break, and we were all trying to pass the time the way we knew best: talking.
I turned toward Nikki and sighed. "Yes, I heard." I said, rolling my eyes. "Everyone knows they got together, Nikki." "No, they broke up!" She exclaimed. My jaw dropped. "But they just got together last week?! What happened?!" "Tyler's mom caught them  going at it in her closet." Anna said, jumping in. "I was telling the story, Anna." Nikki snapped. "Anyway, Tyler's mom heard noises in her closet, investigated, found them doing it, and freaked out." "Wow." I said. "I can't believe they were stupid enough to do it  in his moms closet. I mean, that's like, a given no-no." Suddenly, the bell rang.
There was the sudden rush of us all gathering our things and trying to get out the door. Mrs. Heller called out a weak "Bye! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!" For once not bothering to stop us. I grabbed my bag and headed out to my locker.
Just as I slammed my locker shut,  I turned and found my boyfriend leaning up against them. Ethan   Prince was probably my favorite person besides my best friends, and I loved him with all my heart. "Hey beautiful." He said, leaning down to kiss me. "Hey." He grabbed my hand and pulled me through the crowd as we talked. "You excited for Christmas, babe?" I asked. "Yup. Speaking off, Chris is having a killer Christmas party at his place on Saturday, and I was wonderin' if you'd like to go." I bit my lip. "Gee, Babe, I'd love too, but it's just, my Mama doesn't like me going to parties, and I don't think I'll be able to convince her." Ethan snorted. "So? Don't tell her! That's what I do. Besides, when has your Mama ever stopped you before. She didn't stop you from being with me, did she? I mean, does she even know we're together?" "No." "Well there you go." "And if you need a cover, I can pick you up and say you're coming over to my place." Nikki said, coming up behind us. "See, problem solved." Ethan said, as if that settled the matter. "Look, I'll think about it, alright? I'll let you know if I'm going." Ethan shrugged. "Well, it's gonna be great. I love you, bye." "Bye!"
I bade Nikki goodbye as well as I turned and got on too the bus. I slumped down in my usual seat towards the back sand sighed. I put my earbuds in and played some show tunes as we drove off. What was I gonna do? I wanted to go to the party, but Mama would be pissed if I did. Though Ethan was right, when did that ever stop me before? This certainly wouldn't be the only secret I kept from her. I sighed once again as the bus pulled into my stop. Whatever choice I made, it sure wasn't going to lead for a happy holiday.

"Hey Lu!" Mama greeted as I walked into the diner. "Hey." "How was school?" "Good." "Did ya get your Midterm results back yet." "Nope." I dropped my bag off in the rec room and started to head toward the kitchen when I was ambushed by my Aunt Dawn and Becky. "Hey kiddo!" Becky said. "Have a great last day?" "Yup. We didn't do anything, just the way I like it." They both laughed. "Well, you best start workin before Cal gets on your lazy a- -." Becky said. I laughed and continued to the kitchen. I noticed Mama watching me and quickly looked away. I wasn't surprised, she was sure to have noticed by now that I was a lot warmer to her friends than her, but still. The rest of the day went by smoothly, and I was soon allowed to stop for the day. I immediately trooped to the kitchen, where I began getting out the ingredients for a pie. If there was one thing Mama and I could agree on, it was that pies are a million times better than a therapist.
I hummed along as I prepared the pie, grabbing the ingredients at random, a parallel to my indecisive mood. Flaky vanilla crust, lattice top. Mix, sugar, butter, flour, and eggs together in a bowl. Add in evaporated milk and berries, no-apples. The sour kind. Add lemon juice for extra sourness, the more, the merrier. Okay, maybe a little more sugar to even it out. Pour into crust and prepare the top, baking at 350 degrees for an hour. Don't bother cooling it once it's done. It won't help you anymore if it's cold.
I cleaned up my mess and took the  pie out just as Mama popped in. "We're headin' home." She said. "Hey, what's that, it smells good!" "Oh just, um, an apple pie." "Well, put it in the fridge, we can serve it tomorrow." So much for that last part.
I did not sleep well that night at all. I kept tossing and turning and thinking about the stupid party. It should have been an easy decision, but somehow for me, it never was. I rolled over and sighed. There's still three days till Saturday Lulu, you have plenty of time to think. Easy for you to say, conscience. It took two more hours before I finally gave in too sleep.

Hello children! You may remember me from my other Waitress fic, and this is completely separate from that one. I'm looking quite forward to writing this, and I hope you all enjoy!
