I woke up the next morning in a strange room and with a pounding headache. The lights were ungodly bright and I smelled alcohol. "W-what?" I questioned out loud. I sat up and my eyes fell upon Ethan. Suddenly, it all cane rushing back. Oh my god.
Frantically grappling for my clothes, I danced around the bedroom, getting dressed. Ethan was still passed out cold. I didn't bother waking him, it was his friends house anyway. I'd just text him letting him know I'd left. Wait, text. Nikki, Mama, crap! What time was it? I checked my phone, 8:02 AM. Good. What wasn't good were the five missed calls from Nikki. I dialed her number and waited.
"Where the hell are you?!" Was my greeting.
"With Ethan, at Chris'. Where else would I be?"
"Oh, really? Cause you could have told me that!"
"Didn't you notice us drinking and sneaking off?! I would have thought someone like you would."
Nikki inhaled sharply. "That was so unnecessary, Lulu."
"Sorry. What are we gonna do about my Mama?! She thinks I'm at your place and is probably on her way now!" "I don't know! Just, tell her we slept in late, or something."
"Genius! I'll be right back."
"Hi, Mama?" I asked after she picked up.
"Yeah? What's up Lu?"
I faked a yawn hoping my hangoveredness sounded like I was exhausted.
"Oh it's just, Nikki and I stayed up really late, so I'm gonna head back to bed and get Nikki to drive me, okay?"
"Why should she drive you? I can just get you later."
"No, you don't have to! I swear, she can drive."
"Well, if you insist. But be back home by noon, it's Christmas Eve, I wanna get started on our traditions."
"Yup, sure thing."
After I called Nikki back and convinced her to come get me, I sat down on the bed and sighed.
What the hell did I do last night? I had participated in the most shameful, unLulu like thing, that's what. But it felt good, I think. At least the drinking did. The sex, I wasn't so sure. I mean everybody does it, right? But it didn't feel right, though that could be the good little poster southern girl in me talking. God, why did being a teenager have to be so hard? Just then the door slammed open and Chris walked in. "Whoa, what are y'all doin' here?" He asked. I rolled my eyes. "Gee, Chris, I don't know. Does the party ring a bell?" "Yeah, but everyone left."
"Not us, clearly." Chris just shrugged.
"You want anything to eat?"
"Nah, Nikki should be here soon."
"Kay." He jerked his head toward Ethan. "I'll tell him you left."
"Thanks."

The next two days were actually pretty fun. When I got home, I showered and then helped Mama finish decorating. Yes, every year, we leave or house to the last second. Diner first, then us. As she put up the stockings and garland, I got out are cooking stuff and observed the Elf on the Shelf. I stopped believing in Santa years ago, but it was still fun to come up with ideas for the Elf I had named Minty.
That night, after a ridiculously large amount of Popcorn and watching the movie Elf twice in a row (yes, that's a Schumer tradition), I got up and yawned. "I think I'm gonna go hit the sack Mama." I started heading towards the bathroom when Mama stopped me. "Wait! The pies almost done! Just give it five minutes." I jokingly sighed.
"Okay." The best tradition by far is our pie for breakfast one. Christmas Eve night, we make a special holiday pie, just for us. We make and bake it at night to ensure maximum freshness for the morning. Finally, Mama unveiled our creation. A dark chocolate cherry crust with a cherry filling, with mint and powdered sugar sprinkled on top. "I can't wait to eat it." I said.
"Me either!" Mama agreed. We both looked at each other and laughed.
The next morning was, of course, Christmas. I was in a better mood, though I was still a little messed up from the Christmas Eve-Eve shenanigans. After we ate the pie (it was just as good as predicted) we sat down to presents. From Aunt Dawn I got a brand new set of earbuds, a ridiculously soft blanket, and a pair of real emerald earrings, after my birth stone. From Aunt Becky was a box of nice chocolates, a really fancy red dress, and a copy of Little Women. Cal had gotten me cute Harry Potter keychain and a $25 iTunes gift card. From Mama, I received a lava lamp, jewelry box, and some new laptop stickers. I hugged her. "Thanks, Mama." "You're welcome. Now come on, let's go clean up the kitchen and head over to Dawns."
That night I received a text from Ethan wishing me a Merry Christmas. I wished him one back, but in all honesty, I had kind of forgotten about him, or maybe I was just blocking him out. It was hard to sleep that night, because all I could think about was what we had done.Hello! Happy Belated New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful break!
