Chapter 2: Jakes POV
“Hey man, what’s up?” My best friend Ethan asked me. We were walking towards our usual group of friends who were standing near the entrance. They were laughing at some nerd kid who had dropped his books and I frowned. Just because they are my friends doesn’t mean I liked what they did.
“The sky.” I replied, still frowning at my friends.
“I keep forgetting not to ask what’s up, why do you always reply the sky?” He asked, clearly annoyed. I shrugged my shoulders and kept walking. He shook his head and ran after me.
“So you and Cassidy? He asked, nudging my shoulder. I looked at him confused.
“What are you talking about?” I asked.
“Cassidy been telling everyone that you and her are together now, and how good you were last night.” He said. I looked at him confused.
“Cassidy and I aren’t together, and I was at my uncle’s house all last night fixing his car, you knew that.” I told Ethan.
“Hmm well I don’t man, but you better tell everyone you guys aren’t dating because so far you guys are the new “it” couple.” He said. We reached our group of friends and I was about to ask them about what they had heard about Cassidy and me when I heard a slam in front of me.
I looked down and saw a girl lying on the floor and I reached down to help her up, when I felt Ethan’s hand on my arm and he pulled me away from the fallen girl and towards our group of friends.
I looked back and saw the girl who had fallen and Cassidy arguing before she stormed off towards some people who were milling around on the courtyard. I looked back towards my friends and saw that Cassidy had joined us. I walked forward and grabbed her arm, pulling her along with me until we reached the edge of the courtyard. I turned to face her and glared at her.
“Why did you tell everyone we were dating when we aren’t?” I asked her.
“Aw baby don’t be like that.” She said, running a finger down my chest, “It was just a little white lie.” I grabbed her hand and pulled it away from my chest.
“No it was a really big lie and now practically the entire school thinks we are dating!” I said, my voice rising, “You have to fix this, you either have to tell everyone we were never dating or we have to “break-up” in front of everyone.”
She pouted and said, “Don’t you wanna date me?”
“Frankly at the moment, not really.” I said. She looked like she was about to say something, but I brushed past her and walked back to our group of friends, leaving her.
“Dude what happened between you and Cassidy?” He asked.
“Nothing,” I said wanting to forget her, “Let’s just get to class.”
“But the bell hasn’t rung ye-.” He was interrupted by the sudden ringing and I smirked at him. He punched my arm and walked into the school. I looked behind me, looking for the girl who had fallen, wanting to make sure she was okay, but I couldn’t her see her anywhere. I eventually walked into the school and towards my first class, still thinking about the girl.
