A NOTE: I own none of the media or characters in or referred to in this story. This is a Merlin x reader...if you're not into that stuff don't...read it, I suppose. This also contains descriptions of violence, same thing applies. Comments are very welcome. I hope you enjoy. (p.s. this is still in the works...should be done in the next couple of days though.)
This is your horse, by the way: (His name is Gideon)
You were nearly there. Just another day's ride away was Camelot.
You could feel the excitement burning in your chest. You had traveled around to so many lands, getting jobs where you could, and everywhere you went you found yourself in the midst of exciting and terrifying adventures...but you had seen nothing in the likes of Camelot yet, the famed kingdom with the brave knights, their great King Arthur and brilliant Queen Guinevere.
You urged your horse, Gideon, into a canter as you reeled down the straight forest path, the sun streaming through the dark green leaves of the towering trees. The dappled light brightened Gideon's black mane and your undone hair as they trailed behind you both in the wind. You smiled, the cool summer air racing past you only built up the adrenaline of cantering down the road to the city you'd always dreamed of seeing.
You were thinking about just how beautiful this all was when an uneasiness crept up on you. It was just a thought...something just barely tugging in the back of your consciousness, but it was there.
Travelling alone for so long you had learned to trust your instincts. You slowed Gideon down to a trot and looked around. You couldn't see anything but trees in all directions.
"Strange," you muttered.
Though you didn't see anything you weren't reassured, so you kept on at a slow trot and instinctively checked the fastenings on your belt where you kept your twin short-swords. Now that you were going at a slower pace you could hear things more clearly, listening, you heard horses coming your way down the path, a group of five or so it sounded. This was accompanied by the rattling of plate armor and some rather loud laughter. Despite the laughter, you still felt that uneasiness from before and drew one of your swords from across your body, holding it there, slightly extended as you held Gideon's reins in your left hand, keeping him at a slow pace as you rounded the corner.
You couldn't believe what you saw.
You had never seen their faces before but their shining armor and scarlet red cloaks with the golden dragon insignia over their breastplates were unmistakable. You were facing the Knights of Camelot. Then you looked at the head of the man situated at the front of the group, his hand hovered over his gold-hilted sword. King Arthur.
To your surprise, they all drew their weapons. You remembered you had your sword drawn.
Oh, shit! You thought.
You quickly sheathed the sword at your left hip, bowing your head,
"Your majesty! I apologize. I was expecting something else." You raised your head to take another look at the men you were facing. There were four knights, discounting the King, and a dark haired young man without armor riding beside him. The two of you made eye contact and he smiled kindly at you, you gave a small smile back.
