The morning sunlight poured through my windows. Another day, bright, shiny, and new. The elegant silk curtains on my window danced as the wind grazed across them. The pale greens walls around me reminded me of home. Somewhere that I missed dearly. I stare at my ceiling, pictures of me and my father. My pictures all clustered around to make a heart, they meant everything to me. Minutes had past before I decided to move. I sat up, slowly, yawning in the process. As I reopened my eyes, I see my artwork plastered everywhere, on the floor, the bed, walls, and practically everywhere in between. I swing my legs over my bed, they meet the soft freshly clean white shag carpet. A knock. Not a normal knock, a child sized one.
"Yes Artemis" I glanced at my clock. Half past seven, just enough time before I had to go to class.
"Auntie Jade said you need to get up before you-" hiccup "miss your bus thingy" I smiled. Her voice was so soft, it reminded me of mothers.
"Tell her big brother Dimitri will be down soon" Her little feet pitter patter across the wooden floor, until they were inaudible i hear her yell "Auntie Jade! He said hes coming!". I get up, making sure to make my bed, the tie dye covers covered more than enough. I should probably wash them tonight. I shrugged it off. Putting on my house shoes I opened my door to see Artemis smiling widely.
"Will yous carry me down stairs?" She looks at me with one blue eye and a green one, her bronze hair gleaming.
"I don't know, have you been good" she shook her head, looking at me with sad eyes.
"I tried to be a good girl but everyone is a bully." Tears started welding up in her eyes.
"I know, that's why I'll always be here to protect you." I kissed her forehead. She was my baby sister, and I was her protector.I gave Artemis a piggy back ride down stairs to see a very discouraged aunt. Her natural red hair sticking up, her electrifying blue eyes filled with pain, eyes that had dark circles around them.
"Dimitri I dont know what I'm going to do with you. You're failing your college classes. You cant become your parents. Lord knows I love them but you need to start getting better grades." She threw the letters on the table. I put Artemis down.
"Don't talk about my parents." a fragile hand grabbed mine. The looks of fright in her eyes. "They weren't the greatest but they loved Artemis and I." I took Artemis' hand and walked her to her room. The purple walls glistened as I opened the door. I simply looked at her and told her to get dressed. I walked into the bathroom to brush my hair and teeth, I threw on a clean shirt and fresh pair of jeans and socks, I slipped my shoes on, stood up and looked at my reflection. It showed someone I didn't recognize. My checks were caved in, my skin pale, my dark mud brown eyes empty. I sighed. Time to go.*******************
