Dysfunctional

Will

Driving through town I see the ruins. I look in my mirror at Artemis. Her miscolored eyes staring out the window.
"Why do they hurt us?" her voice was low.
"I don't know." her face was soft with sadness. "Maybe it's what they think is best for us." she sighed. Artemis is smart, very smart. She still can't comprehend bad things though. As I pull up to the elementary school I look in my rearview mirror again.
"I love you Artemis"
"I love you to fart breath" with that she got out of the car.

Driving to Campus I realized I had left my laptop at home, I made a left turn at the stop sign and made my journey home. As I arrpoched the house I could see Aunt had picked up Artemis, confused I pulled into the driveway.
"Why is she not in school?" She was on the phone.
"What do you mean a fatal incident?! Those are my babies! 5th and Main, okay I'll be right there" she walked right through me. Panic arose in my throat. Hyperventilating I screamed. I ran inside to see if Aunt Jade was playing some kind of joke on me. I waved my hand in front of her face. No effect.This had to be some cruel game, going out the door I ran. I didn't know where to or how long, I carried myself until all the adrenaline was gone. I looked around and realized I was at a park. Artemis' favorite park. A merry go round, tire swings, balance bars, and more. I went to the swings and sat down. I needed to think. What happened? Am I dead? Oh god.....

This couldn't be happening.

I killed Artemis.
