Maya was walking towards me and tears were streaming down her face."Can you keep a secret?"I nodded.She sat next to me and turned to face me.The next few words sent my heart down the ground."How could this happen?Didn't you use protection?"I asked.She stared at the ground."Is it his?"She continued staring at the ground."It's his..."She replied softly."I should have listened.You all said the same thing.I didn't listen.
I wished I could turn back time but I can't.What can I do?"She sobbed."The only thing that you can do.."I said as I hugged her."We will get through this.Don't worry"
The weeks past and she got bigger but no one knew that she was pregnant.Her parents were never really around as they were busy with business trips.Occasionally,Maya would be absent for days but nobody said anything.Adam just wiped his hands clean and said goodbye.I did what I promised I would.I kept her secret.She was too scared to tell her parents or any other person.She was convinced they would disown her.She only had me but I was just a student without any income.I took up a part-time job working as a barista in a local cafe while Maya worked as a waitress in a nearby restaurant.We made enough to pay for her medical appointments.
It was a hot afternoon on that unfortunate day.I was sitting on the bench as I watched my classmates playing on the fields.I faked a stomach-ache to keep Maya company but she had disappeared for the last hour saying she was going to the washroom.Suddenly,I heard the siren of an ambulanced and saw a group of teachers standing outside the abandoned girl's washroom.There was so many whispers and sniffling cries but I didn't listen.I only saw the medical officers with their head down as they carried someone on a stretcher.There was a pool of blood on the bathroom floor and the body was covered in a white cloth.The cloth was patially open and I saw her.I saw my friend,Maya and I just lost consciousness after that.When I woke up ,I was in the hospital ,I enquired about Maya and find her in the maternity ward.As I held her hand,she said "thank you for keeping my secret but it's all over now."
