THE NORTHERN FARMS
YEO-RIP
Jung Yeo-Rip, sat beside his friend, Choi as two of the farmers' wives served his friend and his men that sat at another table. He poured wine into two porcelain bowls in front of them.
"Yaaaaah..." He placed one in front of Choi. "What brings the mighty Lord Choi to come visit me in the farm today?"
Choi merely shrugged,"I didn't come to visit Yeo-Rip." He picked up the bowl of wine and drank deeply from it.
Yeo-Rip looked at his friend thoughtfully, before an idea of whom he had come to visit came to mind. "Hmmm... "He tapped Choi lightly on the shoulder. "Have you come to seek your wife, then?"
At that, He nearly choked on the liquid in his mouth. Was he that obvious? Lightly putting the bowl back on the wooden table, he turned to face his friend. He had determination in his eyes.
"Rip, I want to officially seek your father's permission to take in your sister as my wife,"He pursed his lips before he continued. "If that is right by you, I will go ahead. I have been wanting to do this for a while now, but, each time I feel the moment Isn't right to bring it up."
Yeo-Rip took in the serious look on his face. Since they became friends, he had never seen Choi this nervous about something, that made he believe that he would be a good husband to Eun-Soo.
He couldn't help himself but laugh at his nervous expression. "Hey Choi, what's with that expression on your face? That surely does not suit you, you know."
When Choi saw him laugh,he loosened up;
he was glad he wasn't furious at his proposal. He was going to say more concerning his intentions towards his sister, but, a male servant rushed into the small farm shelter.
" Lord Jung," the man called out between panting breaths." I am sorry to interrupt. I have got a few words to say concerning your sister, Lady Eun-soo. She had been capture by the prince and his men this morning on her way here. She is accused of being a traitor to this nation and have been sent to prison with the other lot. "
PALACE OF KING SUNJO,
IN THE ROYAL PRISON.
JUNG EUN-SOO
She stared out the prison's bar at the two men standing guard. Ever since she was brought in there, she had sat like that. After Prince Yoo Sejong ordered the guards to put her in the cell, she was yet to see him.
She still could not believe she was here on the bases of being a traitor. How the day turned sore, was another thing she could not account for.
Have her father heard of her current situation? Aunt Min-Ah and even her brothers? Surely her father will find a way to get her out of here. He will convince them of her innocence, at least she can hope of that happening. She hoped that happens real soon because the whole place reeked of vomit, sweat, urine and stale blood. Being inside such a place gives her a strong urge to throw up herself.
She wished Uni was put in the same cell as her, that way, she would have a companion in here. Another fault with this place was that it didn't have a window or even a crack on the wall where rays of the sun could come in. What was the matter with this people? How is she to know the time of the day.
"Hey!" She tried to gain the attention of the guards, but, none of them paid any heed to her. That didn't discourage her, in fact, that pushed her to try harder.
"Yah!" She tried again. "Look, it's a human in here. What time of the day is it?"
For a moment she thought they were not going to reply her question,until the guard on the right turned to face her with a sinister smile on his face. Before she could guess his intent, one of his hand connected with her left cheek, leaving a swollen eye a reddening bruise on the left side of her face.
Her hand shot up to that side of her face, it hurt like hell.
"Aigoo!" The man gave her a disapproving look. "For now, that should teach a traitor to know her limits."
That seemed to wake Eun-Soo to the reality of more things she was going to face in the nearing future.
After that incident with the guard, she didn't know how long she sat on the floor, cradling her cheek and her swollen left eye.
There was a brief commotion from the entrance of the prison before everywhere became quiet once again. A tall man wearing a gat (a kind of hat worn by men in the Goryeo dynasty) to cover the upper part of his face came to stand in front of the cell. He stooped down to her level to meet her eyes.
"Eun-Soo?" The voice was familiar."Do you remember me?"
"I can not see your face."
He tilted his head up a bit," So, do you now?"
She fearfully stared at the face she wouldn't forget even in her sleep, Prince Yoo Sejo. Considering her last encounter with him, she had no doubt he would make sure she got punished for the crime she did not commit. She had told him to his face of how arrogant and proud he was when she had seen him raise his hand to strike a maid in the market place. That had been before she found out his status three days after.
"Prince Yoo Sejo." She squeaked in a tiny voice.
Seeing the look of horror on her face, pleased,he smiled. " Yes, that is what I am to you."
This day couldn't get any worse. She had no doubt he was here to seek his revenge on her. He was here to rub the irony of the situation all over her. Though her left cheek still hurt, she schooled her expression and forced on a smile on her face as if her very good friend was here to chat with her about the weather.
"What a pleasant surprise, oh am so grateful." She had no doubt the sarcasm in her voice was not lost to him but she continued. "What do you want?"
He stood up suddenly . Eun-Soo flinched,she thought he was going to slap her like one of the guards had done earlier.
She was enraged further when the pervert let out a stomach deep laughter as if she were a court comedian who was performing to please him.
"What do I want?" He said,almost as an afterthought. "Do you want to know? I doubt that. I will let you know what I want after I get you out of here. Just wait till then."
He turned away from her and strolled out of there,leaving Eun-Soo confused. What did he mean?
