An hour passes and Mangle finally returns. I run up to her and hug her.
"You good, Mang?" I ask the fair maiden who nods. I look back at the social worker. She's smiling brightly and nods.
She looks towards the entrance. Her smile turns into a scowl and she runs to the exit. Mangle sits in her bed again.
I can faintly make out the words being used:
"-- how could you do--?!"
"....."
"--me! You--"
"She--"
"...-- why woul-- that?!"
I feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around as a worried Mangle frowns at me. "Can you go check out what's happening please? But you don't ha--"
"Anything my vixen wants," I kiss her temple and sneak out of her room, listening in on the conversation.
I look up, and to my surprise, two foxes are guiltily staring at the social worker.
The woman looks older, maybe in her 40s has white hair and deep blue eyes. She has a cigarette in her mouth with pink lipstick and a beige suit.
The man has dark red hair with a ball-chin and a tiny stubble. He has golden eyes, like Mangle's, and wearing a suit.
I turn my head back in Mangle's room with a suspecting look on my face. "Are those your parents?"
She nods. I go back out, listening carefully.
"Let us see her," the woman demands in the most obnoxious voice I have ever heard.
The panda stands her guard. "Not until the day I die."
The woman steps back, alarmed and offended. The man steps up to the panda.
"Don't talk to my wife that way." He threatens. The panda just smugly smiles.
"Make me."
After a long debate, the woman yells at the panda. "I'm going to see that girl, and she's coming home with me!"
I hear Mangle tell me to let her. I do as she says, step up, and walk to the parents.
"Mangle is ready to see you now." They hurry to the room but I stop them. "But, if you touch her or say one slight insult, say goodbye."
They scoff in unison and rush into Mangle's room, me behind.
The parents circle her and the father speaks. "You shouldn't have some that."
I shoot him a dirty look as I lean on the archway. He sighs.
As the lady is about to speak, I instantly cut her off. "Oooh! It looks like your time is up! Seyo nara!"
They scowl and the woman motions for Mangle get up. "Come on, let's go."
"What?! Mangle, you are NOT going with them!" I yell.
"Sorry, Foxy."
She gets up and they leave the room, Mangle on the verge of tears. The Panda stomps up to them, demanding they go to court about this and how Mangle will be taken away.
They exit the building in a huff.
I head up to the lady with a toothy grin on my face.
"Thank you, miss. You really were great out there."
She shakes my hand with the same smile. "Why thanks, sir! I tried my best. You can call me miss Amira."
I nod and leave the building minutes later, starting my way back home.
