I woke up and noticed I was the only one in the bedroom. I sat up and heard water running from the bathroom, so I insisted Toby was taking a shower. I got up and walked over to my bag, picking out my clothes. I picked out a pink shirt with the name Barbie on it and a pare of black shorts. I tied on my shoes and combed my hair. Toby came back in wearing a white shirt and brown overalls. She slipped into a pare of old boots that, to her surprise, still fit.
"My old farming clothes were in my closet, so I decided to put them on." she said. I nodded and wondered what she was up to.
"Can I see the farm, like maybe you could give me a tour of the barn." I suggested. She looked at me and nodded.
"Yeah, I'll show you the whole land if you want." she said and I nodded. We quietly made our way downstairs and out the front door. We crossed the road to the barn and slipped inside. Toby did tell me about the barn fire that happened, but never went into full detail since it was still painful to talk about. I could guess that it took some of the animals seeing that their was only four ducks, three pigs, three goats, three chickens, one rooster, and two horses.
"Wow." I said surprised at how the fire affected it.
"Yeah, it's pretty bad. There's no use in redoing it, once the animals all die off she's tearing it down." Toby said sighing heavily. We walked over to the pig pen and she crouched down petting them.
"Do they have names?" I asked thinking the pigs had names.
"Yeah. This one's Mini, this one's Will, and this one's Dom." she said.
"Hmm, nice names." I said petting Will. We moved onto the goats and inside the little gate they were in. She crouched down in front of one and stroked it's head.
"This one's Billy, this one's Nanny, and this one's Billy Goat Gruff." she said pointing to each one of the goats. I nodded and I did the same as she did. We moved onto where the chickens were sitting and a rooster pacing the floor beneath them.
"Do they have names too?" I asked curious.
"Yeah. Albert, Amelia, and Attila." she said. "The rooster's name is Cluck." she said pointing to the pacing rooster. I nodded and we walked over to the horses. She heavily sighed looking at them.
"Something wrong?" I asked trying to get passed the rooster.
"There's supposed to be three horses, not two." she said hanging her head.
"Who's missing?" I asked. "Maybe we can find it." I suggested forgetting about the fire.
"We can't find her, she was caught in the fire. It was my horse, Raven. She had raven colored hair, hence the name." she said petting the horse closest to her. "This one is Secretariat and this one's Seattle." she said and motioned for me to follow her outside. We came up to a pond of the four ducks.
"Ducks!" I exclaimed running towards them.
"Yeah. Daffy, Huey, Dewey, and Louie." she said. I giggled.
"Kind of like the Looney Tunes and Donald Duck's nephews." I said remembering my childhood.
"That's where I got the names. Every Saturday morning, my dad and I would sit in the living room with a bowl of cereal and we'd watch cartoons until he had to go to work and I would come out and do barn chores." she explained. I nodded and looked at the field near us.
"Did you grow anything?" I asked. She looked up to where I was looking.
"Oh, yeah. All kinds of stuff: corn, wheat, fruits, and vegetables." she said and again I nodded. "There's a special place I wanna check on." she said and started walking up a hill. I followed and stopped at a headstone shoved into the ground. Toby sat on the ground for a bit than looked up at me.
