The wind was cold, blowing through the air roughly, whipping Alexandria's dark hair around her face. Rain poured down in buckets, drenching through her clothes. She was cold, wet, and irritated. It was common for rain like this in early October, even the temperature wasn't anything new. But never has she had to walk home in it! Normally her parents or her best friend, Chelsea, would have picked her up. It was safe to say, no one answered their phone.

Night was ascending quickly, Alexandria pulled her soaked coat tighter around her. Shivering as she hurried along the dirt path. Mud splashed when she stomped down to go faster, it flew up and coated her pant legs and shoes. Her shoes were soaked through now, stepping through puddles just to reach the path to her house. It was getting worse, rain came down in sheets, Alexandria couldn't see two feet in front of her. When she finally reached her porch she let out a deep sigh and opened the door.

"I'm home!" She shouted. She stripped her coat and shoes off, walking into the kitchen. A slight chill passed over her body because of the wetness of her clothes.

"Alex! What have I told you about tracking water through the house?!" Her mother scolded. Alex rolled her eyes and made her way to the front door where her mother was mopping up rainwater. She was on her hands and knees, with a rag soaking it up.

"Mom, it's just a bit of water. It's not gonna hurt anything. Besides, it's pouring outside, water's getting in either way." Alex shrugs then walks back into the kitchen, pulling an apple from the basket. She tosses up and catches it, smiling to herself. Taking a bite, she flinched at the taste. She's never really liked apples, but it's the only fruit her mother really bought. And her mother expected her to eat it.

"Where were you anyway?" She asked, raising her eyebrows. Alex rolled her eyes.

"I had to walk home, because you wouldn't pick up the phone." She muttered while crossing her arms over her chest.

Her mother whipped her head up and looked at her. "Oh honey, I'm sorry! My phones been dead all morning and I forgot to charge it!"

"It's fine, just a little water." Alex shrugged.

"Well, you better head downstairs, your dad will be home soon." She said as she got up off the floor.

"Alright, I'll see you in a little bit!" Alex called as she made her way to the basement. Closing the door behind her she looked around the room. As always, cabinets line the concrete walls. In the cabinets there's all different types of weapons. Ranging from knives to guns to explosives. There's a locked cabinet in the corner with dozens of different kinds of poisons.

Alex never knew why they were there, until she turned nine. Her father brought her down her and showed her everything. He spent hours talking to her about all the different weapons and poisons. When she finally asked why they were down there, he just smiled.

"I'm gonna teach you all about it." He said.

"Jody, I'm home!" Alex heard her father call out. There were some hushed whispers and then footsteps. When the door creaked open, Alex looked up at her father. He was smiling at her, she couldn't see him that well because the basement is a bit dark and also a little damp. "Hey sweetheart."

"Hi dad." She replied. "Are you ready?"

"As I'll ever be," he grinned. Her father wasn't that old, early forties. Unlike most fathers, he had a full head of hair and a slim, fit figure. Her mother is much the same, only in her mid thirties.

"Alright, let's get to work." Alex clapped her hands together and walked over to the dagger section on the far side of the room. "Daggers today, right?"
