Poem #3: View from the Cave

What happens if the Sun revolves around

Just you, if only for a day or two?

Forget Copernicus, for you, alone,

Instruct unruly Mars to stay in line.

If Atlas bore the burden of the skies

For eons, maybe you could stand the Weight--

While I wait here, just staring up at you.

And chained inert, as shadows cast recede,

I can’t avert my gaze ‘til I go blind.

I couldn’t be the star that shines brightest

In your dim night, I linger far below--

My roots are planted deep in dirtied soil

Among the worms and weeds and taller trees.

And when a shadow falls upon the Earth,

I sit in darkness, petals folded close.
