"Ali and Missy, I'd like a little sing off." Ms. Beeston, my music teacher announced to the class.
Missy smirked, making me lower my eyebrows. How I hated her.
"Good luck, freak." She whispered in my ear as we both walked up in front of the class.
"What do you girls want to sing?" Ms. Beeston asked, and I was quick to answer first.
"Blow Me One Last Kiss by P!nk," I said, earning a glare from Missy. I had the advantage, because I knew I could sing this song. I knew she knew the lyrics too, but it wouldn't be her first choice.
"Ok, Ali has the first verse and the second chorus. Missy has the first chorus and the second verse. Share the bridge and go back and forth on the last chorus. Ready?"
"Ready." I said, fully confident. Sing-offs happened every Monday in our music class. Two people would be called up to the front of the class, and one chooses a song. No music, no mic, no nothing. You sing in front of the entire class. Then the class votes who sang it better. It was actually really fun. Erin was in my music class, and she gave me a thumbs up, smiling. I smiled back, winking.
"As ready as ever," Missy says, venom oozing out of her voice.
"White knuckles, and sweaty palms from hanging on too tight. Clench your jaw, I got another headache again tonight," I belted loudly. I was fired up. "Eyes on fire, eyes on fire, and they burn from all the tears. I been crying, I been crying, I been dying over you. Tie a knot, in the rope, tryna hold, tryna hold, but there's nothing to grab so I let gooo." I hold the 'go', leaning back and letting my voice fill up the room, earning few murmurs and whistles. I grin.
"I think I've finally had enough, I think I maybe think too much, I think this might be it for us. Blow me one last kiss.. You think I'm just too serious, I think your full of it, my head is spinning so blow me one last kiss. Just when it can't get worse I had a shit day, you had a shit day, we had a shit day. I think that lifes too short for this, want back my ignorance and bliss, I think I've had enough of this. Blow me one last kiss." Missy sang. She was actually pretty good.
She sang through the second verse, and I jammed out in the second chorus. We shared the bridge, and went back and forth on the chorus for the last time just like Ms. Beeston had told us to.
The class applauded loudly. I had to admit, we did sound good.
"Now, raise your hand for Missy!" Ms. Beeston said to the class. About 10 people raised their hands.
"Now for Ali!" More than 20 people raised their hands, making me smile.
"Ali wins!"
There were a few more sing-offs, but nothing important.
I headed out into the hallway as the bell rang, bumping into Ethan Sanders. Ethan had been my long time crush, I'd liked him since 5th grade. He was a jock. Football player, dating Missy (puke) you get the picture. It really sucked to be me.
"Sorry!" I said as both of our books fell on the ground.
"Its fine, no problem." He said calmingly, making me smile a little.
"Thanks," I told him as he picked up my books for me and handed them to me.
I was soo lame.
"Hey babe," Missy walked up and said to him, and they kissed. Right in front of me.
What a slut.
I groaned and joined Erin and we headed to lunch. I bought a salad, doritos, and water, (trying to keep it healthy) while Erin got pop, a bagel and potato chips. We sat down at a table outside, joined by Alek about 2 minutes later.
