"Oi Tae what time is it?" Piaa asked as the trio walked towards Taehyung's car.

"Umm-"

"5:15 pm, we need to go," Naila said, putting her phone back in her bag.

"Hey can I drive?" Piaa asked.

"Wait can you even drive?" Taehyung chuckled.

"Um excuse me yes I can drive thank you, I am sixteen and have a license," she sassed back.

Taehyung's face turned from laughing to genuine concern as he saw Piaa snatch the silver car keys that were dangling on his finger and walk over to the car and start it.

A laugh sounded from the passenger side of the truck, knocking Taehyung out of his shock. Naila watched the scene carefully, finding the sight of Piaa with her short baby pink skirt and white cropped sweatshirt in his large black Ute quite amusing. Her golden-blonde hair in a high messy bun completely contrasting the masculine vibe of the vehicle.

Piaa stopped the truck on the road outside Naila and Taehyung's houses, allowing both Naila and Taehyung to loosen up a bit and breath normally, after finally being still and the vehicle out of Piaa's grasp.

"Thank god, I'm not gonna lie I really thought I was gonna die a few times back there." Naila said.

"Um rude, my driving is not that bad," Piaa stated taking offence.

"Haha chill but it is," Taehyung laughed.

Piaa huffed jokingly as she turned and walked in the direction of Naila's house, leaving Naila to say bye to Taehyung.

"Thanks for today, from me and Piaa," Naila laughed, for some reason at ease.

"Hah no problem. Also have fun at that club tonight," he replied a soft friendly smile set on his lips.

"Will do," Naila said walking backwards slowly towards her house, she stood at her door for a while watching Taehyung walk in through his house fence, his head disappearing behind the faded planks of pine.

Naila walked into her house to the welcoming smell of pasta sauce and the sight of her father leaning over a bubbling bowel of pasta and her mother slowly stirring the spaghetti sauce.

"Hey honey," her mum called her.

"Yeah hey hon," Piaa said from the kitchen bench across from the oven.

Naila walked over to her and slapped her arm lightly making them both laugh.

"Hey mum we're gonna go get ready for that school dance yeah?" Naila said as she walked up towards the stairs.

"Alright, Piaa will you be staying for dinner again?"

"You know it" Piaa sighed knowingly.

Naila grabbed Piaa and dragged her up the stairs to her room.

"You've got 30 minutes!" Naila's mum yelled from downstairs.

Both girls walk down the stairs dressed in 80's themed arobics clothes.

"What on earth..." Naila's mum muttered with her hand over her mouth.

"Look mum it's a themed dance why not go all out, don't lie we look sooo cool" Naila said throwing up a peace sign.

"Yeah and plus we've only got a couple more years of school dances to go before we graduate" Piaa chimed in.

"Girls I've been meaning to ask, how'd you get home from school?, I didn't see you car out the front Piaa?"

"Oh, um..." Piaa stuttered looking to Naila for support.

"The boy from next door dropped us."

"The one who just moved in?"

"Yeah him"

"Lovely, you should invite him for dinner one night, I'd love to meet him!" Naila's mum said curiously.

"Don't get any funky ideas mum, he's our friend and there's nothing else going on" Naila said rolling her eyes.

Her mum looked to Piaa for reassurance, Piaa eagerly nodded reenforcing Naila's statement.

Both brightly dressed girls walked out the house and towards the footpath. Naila's eyes unintentionally drifted up to the next door neighbours fence, then to the first story window, then the second. There he was, his head of blonde hair visible from the car, he looked up from whatever he was doing as Naila's mum revved the engine, their eyes met, a small smile playing on Naila's lips as they drove to the dance.

The theme for this years dance was "The 80's" the combination of Piaa's limited knowledge of eighties fashion and Naila's old dance costumes left both girls dressed in bright pink tights and neon green leotards, with a head full of curls each.

Looking around the spacious hall it was notable that the other student were in the same boat, except for Lola.

She had the perfect blue jeans and vintage top. She looked like she'd been plucked right out of back to the future. She hit the nail on the head, it was hard to admit but she does look great.

The pair danced around together on the dance floor to the throwback jams till they were flushed in the face and sweating.

Madonna and Michael Jackson songs were still echoing through their heads as they made their seperate ways home.

It was dark outside as Naila's car pulled up to her house. She walked inside sparing a glance at the house over the fence. Her heart dropped ever so slightly at the sight of the darkened windows.

He's probably asleep, I mean it's 10 o'clock at night I should be too, Naila thought.

After showering and climbing into bed Naila reached to text Piaa goodnight but her finger lingered over Taehyung's contact.

No he's asleep already, I won't bother she reasoned, and went to sleep.
