I walked down the halls and followed the guy behind the counter's directions. I came to a set of double doors that led out to a dark tunnel, at the end was streamers, lights, and a full stadium waiting for me.
"So, this is what absolute terror feels like."
I made my way up to the end of the tunnel, and as I walked out into the sun bleached arena, I heard the announcers shout my name."
"Fillies and Gentlecolts, Cobalt Blue!"
The crowd roared, I could feel the energy from the crowd, the surge of voices hitting me like a wave, but then, I heard a familiar shout.
"Go Cobalt! Woohoo!"
I looked to my side, and I saw her, the one mare I've been trying to make a move on for months now, the one that took my thoughts and faded them away and made me think only of her. Scout Smiles, she was right up on the fence of the racetrack too! I ran up to talk to her, just so I could say something.
"Scout! You're here! I can't believe you'd show up!"
"Well, for my favourite non-blue colt I'd show up to see him knock some Manehatten blocks off at the finish line."
She was awesome, she just melted all my thoughts of that race into nothing. And I could only think of her. I could hear one of the track guys yell to me
"Cobalt! You got 8 minutes!"
"Well, it looked like it's my time to shine, sorry Scout, I gotta go. You want to meet me at the finish line after the race?"
"Yeah! Definitely, I'll see you there, good luck!"
I tucked my wings, and flew to the starting gates.
As I ran into our teams gate line, Brett shoved me to the side, he picked me up by my race jersey and got in my face.
"Oi, Cobalt, you remember what I said about your wings right? You better win, or I got the gloves on standby, I race first, then Cold Luck, next Brimmer, and then you for the last race. Ok? We lose and it's your wings, got it?!
I gulped, and nodded my head like I understood.
"Alright, well, I'm up, we'll be watching you Cobalt, Don't forget it.
I ran to my race slot, and waited for my name to be called.
I could faintly remember my fathers voice, when he spoke to me the day of my first race.
"Now Cobalt, you remember what you need to do right?"
"Yep, I hug the corners on turns and pin the throttle on the straightaways!"
"That's right, but one last thing, whatever you do, don't let anyone get in your head. No one but you is allowed to be up in your head when you race. You just think about you out there. Ok?"
"I got it dad, thanks."
I heard the announcement up on the board, I was up.
"Next race, Cobalt Blue of Baltimare versus Echo Fleetfoot of Manehatten!"
"The scores are tied!"
"Next race determines the victor!"
I just can't catch a break, can I?
