KWABAM!
My body rocketed off the tarmac, like a firecracker when you put a torch under it. I could feel the surge of energy pulsating in my wings, the power radiating in my body.
I zipped around the track, curve after curve, my mind clear as a crystal, with my only thought on one thing.....
1st place
Coming down the straightaway, I sailed like a bullet, my body rocketing through the first lap of the race, not even realizing that my opponent lay only a couple of mere feet above me.
"Hey cobalt! Did ya miss me!"
Echo's front hooves hit my back like a pair of hammers, dampening my speed. I could hear his cackling laughter though the rest of the straight, seeing him zoom off acted like fuel to a fire, as I put it in high gear.
"And here comes Echo rounding the curve, and WOAH! There goes Cobalt Blue! He rounded that corner so fast I'm surprised it didn't knock him off!"
I flew through the next lap like a heat seeking missile, pinning the throttle to the max. Before I won, I wanted to show him that you didn't mess with me and get away with it.
I came over the top of his wings and saw him not even paying attention, careless as ever, boy this was gonna be good. I could hardly wait, but then, a flash, out of the corner of my eye, I could see it, like a tiny mirror, Then it hit me.
PWONG!
Next thing I saw was a hard metal sign in my face, and my chance at the gold shot. I could see him stop, look for a second, and laugh at me. It was humiliating enough hitting a sign in front of my entire team and my opponent, let alone a stadium full of hundreds.
He sped off, leaving a trail of dust and dirt behind, I could hear the announcers talking about my run in with the sign, but I didn't even care. My mission at that moment was to just finish the race. That's it. I just wanted this nightmare to be over.
I hit the trail like a overclocked machine, my body pushing the max, I just wanted it to be over then, I couldn't care less about the race, seeing myself catch up to Echo though, was a shock, however.
"I can't believe what I'm seeing right now! Cobalt Blue is catching up to Echo! This is amazing!"
I could see my way to the last lap of the race, my mind refocused, my body was in the zone. I pinned the throttle one last time, and took the lead.
"What the buck!?"
I could hear his confusion, only to have it drowned out by the crowd's thunderous roar. It felt amazing to actually be ahead this time, and it felt even better to be passing by even faster this time. I soared past the first curve, and careened down the straightaway, I wasn't gonna give up my edge easily, not after my earlier defeat. I felt the wind in my goggles, my speed only increasing with distance. I could see the checkered flag, the finish line. Nobody could stop me. I was power. I was speed. I was-
"STAY DOWN THIS TIME!"
I could only feel the Tarmac on my face then, and I could only see Echo cross the finish line, only meters in front of me.......
So close, yet so far......
