The Truth

Hey there! For once, I did not get this idea because I was bored! Who knew that was possible?

Anyway, I have to say one thing before I get on with the story. This is NOT a KanamexYuki story. This is a Zeki story. I'm sorry if you started reading this because you thought there was going to be Yume (there is a little in the first couple of chapters) but this is ultimately a ZeroXYuuki story.

Now, let's get on with the story, shall we?

Disclaimer: I do not own Vampire Knight or any of its characters. They belong to Matsuri Hino.

(Ren POV)

Ren Kiryu sighed for what had to be the hundredth time that day. Kaname Otou-San didn't know when to give up did he?

"Father, I understand why you want to know about your past. Anyone would want to know if they were in your position. But we cannot tell you. I'm sorry," Ai Onee-San said sadly. Ren instinctively held her hand out for Ai to hold. She took it, not even looking at Ren. She frowned. Ai continued to look at Kaname with pain and a hint of guilt in her eyes. She obviously wanted to tell him the truth, but her and Ren's promise to their mother came first.

Ai may have always been a bit distant with their mother, but they had still shared a close bond with each other. And in the months leading up to mother's death, they had grown even closer, though Ren still had a slightly better relationship with mother.

A muscle in Kaname's jaw clenched. Ren has been watching the man closely enough the past few months that he knew Kaname Otou-San wasn't actually angry at either of them. He wasn't angry at anyone but himself. Ren couldn't help the small smirk that graced her lips. The silver haired vampire highly doubted that the man in front of him even knew how alike he amd Yuki were. They were both stubborn as hell, loyal only to a select few and loved even fewer people. But when they did love, it was as deep and endless as an ocean and as unshakable as a mountain. Actually, that description also fit Zero Otou-San as well.

Ren felt as if someone had just wrapped their hand around her throat and squeezed. Most days, Ren could think of her blood father without feeling as if she had just been sucker punched in the gut. Other days, she would go to the Kiryu family graves, curl up on top of his Father's grave, and cry. All day, he would lay there crying silently, without food or rest.

She had been having a lot of those days lately.

Kaname sighed, snapping Ren out of the rising well of grief. "I just— Look, I know that it's been—" Kaname sighed again, clearly frustrated at not getting the right words out. He seemed to struggle with himself for a few moments, clenching and unclenching his jaw. Mother said that Zero Otou-San would do that as well when he was thinking about something serious, or trying to make a tough decision.

'I always knew I was a masochist', Ren thought grimly to herself.

Kaname finally spoke. "I'm going to take a walk. Clear my head. I won't be long." And with that, he turned on his heel and walked out the door.

Ai and Ren shared a look. 'Just what did we get ourselves into this time?' Ren thought.

(Kaname POV)

Kaname walked and walked, not really seeing what was in front of him until he reached his destination.
