AUTHOR'S NOTE: SO sorry for making anyone cry during that last chapter but I really wanted to put if out there. Hope this lightens the mood and melts your shipper hearts!
It's been two years since John's accident. He's fully healed and they famous Baker Street Boys are back in business. There's just one little, itty bitty, tiny, teeny weeny, change: they're dating. Yes, you read that right, they're dating. And they are so much happier now.
Every day, John wakes up to the sound of Sherlock playing a love song on the violin. They spend weekends going out to the movies or playing board games. Cuddling on the couch and sleeping together are a must for the lovers. During cases, they can't help but hold hands during investigations and mildly flirting with one another. Their lives have completely changed and it's definitely for the greater good. Now, kisses are not new to Sherlock and it's no longer awkward on the rides home from the police department. All is well, happy, and thriving. But, there is one little thing that Sherlock has planned for the two that will take their world, and flip it upside-down.
It was a normal Saturday Date Night for Holmes and Watson. They decided to go to a very classy place to eat, grab a movie, then listen to the the radio at home. After the movie, Sherlock asked John, "Want to take a walk through the park?"
John raised an eyebrow.
"Sherlock you never like to go on walks and you seem much happier than usual. Did they put something in your wine?", John replied.
"Oh no, of course not. And I just happen to be in a cheery mood. So, how about that walk?", he chirped.
John chuckled and agreed. Walking hand in hand, they made their way to the park. It was a warm summer night and every star in the sky was out and about. The streetlights gave off their usual hazy glow, making the stars shine even brighter. They entered the park, admiring how the trees shaped the sky and the stars danced along the canvas of dark, beautiful color. After walking through the whole park, they found a bench and sat down to watch the sky. Sherlock wrapped his arm around John's waist and kissed his cheek. John giggled quietly. They enjoyed the mesmerizing view, pointing out constellations, and joking with each other heartily. After a moment, they fell silent. John rested his head on Sherlock's shoulder and smiled. "This was a good idea Sherlock. And I have to say, this night couldn't get any better", John sighed happily.
"I beg to differ", Sherlock replied simply, biting his lip to hide his grin.
"How could it get any better than this? I ate a beautiful restaurant and fully enjoyed my meal. We watched a brilliant film that has definitely become my new favorite. And to top it all off, we took a beautiful walk through the park. Not to mention I'm spending another amazing night with you", John finished with a grin. "Look! A shooting star! Quick, make a wish!"
John closed his eyes for a moment and Sherlock did the same, wondering what he wished for. Sherlock finished his wish before John and opened his eyes. Looking at John, he chuckled quietly, realizing that John looked like a small child making a wish: His eyes were squeezed tight, his legs swinging from the bench, and the fact that he was just adorable.
He finished his wish and looked at a grinning Sherlock. "Something is definitely not right with you tonight Sherlock."
"Oh everything is just fine and I believe it's about to get a whole lot better", Sherlock grinned.
Sherlock stood up from the bench, and walked in front of John. John was about to ask what was going on but Sherlock put a hand up to stop him. "John, six years ago, on this very day, you came to live at my flat. At that time, I had no idea how much you were going to mean to me or how much you were going to change my life. I am sure that in the beginning I was a real pain. But, as time went on, we went from flatmates, to colleagues, to friends. Now, we are much more than that. Now, you mean so much to me that I wish to dedicate my every breath to caring for you and showing just how much I love you. Without a doubt, you are my everything; my breath, heart, and every thought. I wish to spend every last second of my life to you. And so I finish with one very important, life changing question, "he got on one knee, and pulled out a ring,"John Hamish Watson, will you marry me?"
John sat there, completely speechless. As tears formed in his eyes, he broke into the biggest smile Sherlock has ever seen. He sat there for a moment longer, keeping Sherlock waiting with bated breath.
"YES!", he cried as he flung himself into Sherlock's arms.
They hugged and John grabbed Sherlock's face and kissed him passionately before breaking away to look at his lover's face. Sherlock slid the ring onto John's finger and suddenly they were both crying the happiest tears they've ever cried in their entire life. Clutching one another, they knew...this was the start of a new beginning.
