Sophie and Sky- right from the start

My whole life has been this huge unanswered question. My dad was never around growing up, and whenever I asked my mom she never gave me a full answer. She only said that he left before she knew she was expecting me. I always felt a piece of me was missing while I was growing up. Eventually I accepted that's all I'd ever know.

Sometimes I wish I knew, but I'm so thankful for the bond I've had with my mom. I may not have my dad, but at least I have my mom and my two best friends Ali and Lisa.

From kindergarten to twelfth grade, I've never actually had a school. It wasn't that we couldn't afford one, there just wasn't many kids on the island. I grew up with some of the boys and girls who are on the island now, and some who didn't stay long. That's how I met Pepper, Ali, and Lisa. We didn't have a school building, we just went outside and someone taught us. Ali, Lisa, and I didn't know each other before school. Ironically, they were both only there temporarily and they only lived near me on Kalokari for two years.

After they left, we stayed in touch which was good. Pepper and I were pretty close, but not like I was with Ali and Lisa. He was on Kalokairi with me since 2nd grade and stayed even after we graduated. He was one of my best friends when Ali and Lisa weren't there, but when the two of them were here, he usually talked with the other boys. We never dated or anything, but we were very supportive of each other. And if it weren't for him I wouldn't have met the love of my life.

I still remember the day I met Sky like it was yesterday. Pepper always invited his friends to the mainland, and I always tried to be friendly and greet anyone new I saw. When I saw Sky, I was at a loss for words for a second. There was something about him that was different then most of the boys Pepper brought to Kalokairi. He wasn't just one of the boys who ran around the island and got drunk and didn't take the time to appreciate the beauty of the island. Pepper wasn't like them either, but Sky was just so much more down to Earth which I liked.

Never in a million years did I think this man would change my entire life. But yet here I am, married to the most amazing man in the world, with an amazing child too and I couldn't be happier.
