I can see Mae's beautiful cascade of hair. It hasn't been dyed yet and her brown hair looks like gold in the sun. Her back is turned, but I can tell she's sad about something. "Hey Munchkins, what's on your mind?" I ask her from where I am laying on the grass. She looks over to me with the beginning of tears poking up in the corners of her eyes.
"I can't help but think of all the people who love you. The people who would do anything to be with you. What do you see in me?" she asks in a far-off voice. "Well, for one you aren't as over the top as every other girl. You're quiet, reserved and smart. Secondly, I see something beautiful inside of you. You have a sweet heart and a loving soul. Thirdly, and I like this one a lot, you are the most sarcastic person I know and I love it. You don't ever let anyone get the best of you. And finally, you are the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. There is no one who can compare to you in the whole world. You are the most special person on this planet..." I say without breaking stride.
"Thank you..." she says as she comes over to my side. "You always know just what to say to make me feel better." I smile as she finds her spot next to me on the grass, her head resting on my chest. "I don't know what I did to deserve a girl as good as you. If only you could see yourself through my eyes... Then you would know how truly amazing you are..." I whisper into her ear. "I love you Isaac..." she says, though her voice starts to sound far away. "I-"
I feel the sheets over my aching body as I wake up from my dream. "I love you too Mae..." I whisper into the darkness of my hospital room.
