KARACHI: Police had detained Zarrar Alamgeer, independent candidate on Tuesday, 12th January 2022 on suspicion of involvement in the murder attempt of a woman who reportedly fell from the third floor of a disorderly house on Monday morning.
However, police investigators believe NM, the victim, either fell accidentally or it was a suicide attempt.
NM was from Tando Adam Khan, interior Sindh and shared a room in the disorderly house with her sister named UO. Police claimed NM was a dancer and UO was involved in the sex trade.
Police quoting UO said that on Monday night Zarrar Alamgeer had visited and upon his visitation heated argument had ensued between Dayyan Khan and Zarrar Alamgeer. He was there for nearly thirty minutes. UO went inside the house to give NM and Zaraar Alamgeer some privacy as per Zarrar Alamgeer's request, leaving NM alone on the terrace of the building with Zarrar Alamgeer. Twenty minutes, later, UO told police that some people found NM lying injured on the ground of the building near the entrance and Zarrar Alamgeer was nowhere to be found.
Police had arrested Zarrar Alamgeer from the airport in a bid to flee after UO had lodged a complaint with the police against Zarrar Alamgeer.
Investigators have interrogated the suspects and have also visited the site from where she reportedly fell. The suspect told the police that he and NM both have been acquainted for less than six months, at the time. There was no payment involved or prostitution per se for this meeting, police say.
The owner of the brothel, P was also taken into police custody. Police say P and some of the other sex workers had seen the two of them arguing that night, at the terrace.
"We have not ruled out the possibility of a murder attempt, but it seems she fell accidentally," a police officer said. UO in her complaint had nominated Zarrar Alamgeer but police say they had found nothing which could suggest foul play. A police official said the victim was also on drugs. "She was drunk at the time. A water bottle but liquor inside it was found at the terrace she fell from," an official said.
The victim is in a medically induced coma. The political candidate has also resigned.
