Sam told me that flowers are often used to show affection between humans. It was such an odd thing to do, picking one of my father's creations out of the ground, effectively killing it, just so that a human I liked could look at it for a couple of days. I asked Sam if he had ever done that.
"For Jess, maybe, but that was a long time ago. It's cheesy anyways, Cas. Don't worry about it."
But I did worry, and after several weeks of contemplation, I decided to just buy some for the one human I cared about most. I bought them at a flower shop, and when I saw some that were still in a pot, I bought those. (Yay, no killing flowers!) It was a beautiful red lily, and the pattern on its petals resembled flames.
I remember giving it to him perfectly. He was cooking dinner in the bunker, something he absolutely loved doing. Fish was on the menu and its scent was wafting to every corner of the bunker.
"Dean?" I said tentatively, "These are for you. Sam said that humans by other humans flowers when they care about them. At first, I thought it was awful, ripping plants out of the ground, but then I found these and they're still planted so you can keep them alive, which is neat."
He was silent for a second, but then he was grinning, and then he was very close to me, his hands on either side of my face. "They're beautiful. I love them. I... "
I smiled too, tipping my head forward so that our foreheads met. "I love you too, Dean."
