As he walks up to the mansion’s door, he feels the urge to hide in the bushes out of habit.  For a moment, he considers it, then decides that it probably wouldn’t be wise for a first date.  He rings the doorbell instead, and a grand sound of bells vibrate behind the door.

The door opens, and a girl with dark auburn hair dressed in jeans and a T-shirt says, “Hi Devin.  Come on in.”

For a moment, Devin mistakes the girl for Willow, until he notices the light brown eyes.  Waverly stares at him impatiently, making Devin almost as uneasy before as he was sitting before the Council.

“Uh, is Willow almost ready?” He asks nervously.

“She’ll be ready when she’s ready.  How about you just relax; take a seat.”  Waverly gestures to a white couch in the room to his left.

He walks over, and sits quietly.  Looking around the room, he notices how neat and clean it is for a living room that hosts over twenty people.  He doesn’t find anything that would hint at Jake’s residence here, but he tries not to let that discourage him.

From the stairs, a guy about Devin’s age walks into the living room.  “She’ll be down in a minute Devin.  You want something to drink?” Cameron asks.

“No thanks, I’m fine.”

Cameron nods, and walks over to Waverly.  Quietly, they have a brief conversation occasionally glancing at Devin, thinking that he doesn’t notice.  He can’t tell what they’re saying, but he gets that feeling that they don’t necessarily welcome his presence.

Finally, Willow walks down the steps and stops by the doorway.  Devin stands and walks over to meet her, smiling.

“Wow, Devin you look great,” she says.

Devin stands there, a little awestruck.  Now standing a few feet away from her, Devin can clearly see how beautiful her green eyes are.  She wears a dress that’s about the same shade of deep green, and he begins to understand the foundation of his friends’ doubt in him.

“You truly look fantastic, Willow,” he says.

She smiles.  “Thank you.  Now come on, I’d hate to stay here and keep us any longer from dinner.”  She looks at Waverly and Cameron, who stare at Devin anxiously.  “I’ll see you guys later.”

“Yup.  Have fun,” Waverly mutters passive-aggressively.

“See ya Willow,” Cameron says.

From the corner of his eye, Devin sees a figure standing in the kitchen, someone who he hadn’t noticed before.  He doesn’t get a good look, though, because Willow drags him out of the mansion and to Riley’s car.

As the two teens get in the car, she says, “Hey, sorry about Waverly and Cameron.  They’re a little on edge lately.  We’ve just had a lot going on.”

Devin’s curiosity spikes.  “What’s been going on?”

“We can talk about it at the restaurant.  Let’s just get out of here first.”

He starts the car, and backs out of the driveway, a little annoyed that he’s already having a difficult time getting information from Willow.

“So, Devin, where are we eating?”

“Does Nello’s sound good to you?”

She smiles.  “I love Nello’s.  Their Calamari is great.”

“Yeah, their seafood is pretty good.  Actually, I wasn’t sure if you’d prefer pizza or Nello’s.  It’s completely up to you.”

She shakes her head.  “Nello’s is fine!”  Willow’s phone buzzes in her hand, and she reads a message from Waverly silently.
