People who say OCD isn't a real mental illness have obviously never pointlessly locked and unlocked a door 20 times or more.
The need to do it is always there. You check it over and over, again and again until your mind is at least half satisfied. Even when you head to bed the voice in your head haunts you, "go check it. It's not locked, someone can get in. They will get in. Check it. Check it". It drives you crazy. Begging you to get out of bed. You try to push the thought into the back of your head to get to sleep.
