It was possibly, the scariest day of my life.
I stood there, mask in hand, uniform shining new, chest puffed out with pride and holding an outstanding salute...
I was one of three applicants to be accepted into the proud family of the Metropolitian Police Force. There all three of us stood, still as statues as the supreme rank inspected us... The EpU, oh boy, we've all heard stories of /her/.
"The Sadist".
She paced up and down, her eyes undoubtably narrowed as she glared at our faces.
"You."
I'm pointed at with the stun baton 'Oh God.' I thought before replying, my nerves showing in my voice;
"M-Ma'am!"
She tilted her head, although she was wearing a mask, I could tell through the tinted visor what emotion she was displaying. That of a malicious grin uppon hearing the slight stammer in my terrified voice.
"What is your name?"
I took a deep breath, I could feel the beads of sweat trickling down my bald head - The room was cool, but it was the fear - The sheer unpredictability that rumors tell stories of when it comes to this unit. Absolutely terrified, I respond;
"H-Howard Phillips L-Lovecraft, Ma'am!"
She replies, coldly;
"Division."
I took a second to think, almost as if the situation had drummed my ambitions out of my head - I soon remembered, a slight calm falling over me as I re-organised my memory.
"HELIX, ma'am."
She laughs, somewhat bluntly;
"HELIX? As you wish."
Before withdrawing an armband marked 'HELIX.05', placing it in my hand and moving along to the only female applicant present. I breathe a quick sigh of relief and watch from the corner of my eye.
"And your name?"
The lady is quick to respond, holding her salute.
"Rebecca Goodwinter, Ma'am!"
The EpU rests a hand under the woman's chin, tilting her head around in the light as if examining her.
"Mm.. You're a pretty girl, Becky - No scars, cuts, bruises... Don't you worry though, sweetheart. That's /bound/ to change."
Becky throws the EpU a quick glance, one laced with confusion and fear before staring forward again, unsure how to respond.
"Division."
She responds cooly;
"GRID, Ma'am."
The EpU sighs, shaking her head.
"Another techie? Your choice."
Before reaching into the same pouch and withdrawing a GRID.05 armband, handing it to the lady and walking along to the final applicant. He stands, somewhat slouched and his salute is visibly half-hearted. Something the EpU has surely noticed.
"I don't even want to know your name, hand me your gun."
He looks back, suprised and quickly fumbles around in his belt, withdrawing the 9mm and holding out the handle to the EpU.
She snatches it before quickly firing a shot into each of his legs then one between his eyes as he falls, simply killing him before tossing the weapon down ontop of him...
I didn't know how to react, I just stood there, shocked.. Aswell as the GRID.
"You two are dismissed for now. You'll be alerted when the training starts."
She says, casually walking over infront of us.
We just stand, frozen in fear and confusion - surely that did not just happen!
"Do you need a special invitation like him?!"
She raises her voice, pointing to the corpse of the would be applicant.
"Get out of here, move it!"
We quickly jog out of the room, my colleague first.
As harsh as it was at the time, she moulded that force into one of the finest the union's ever seen. Something neither me or Becky soon forgot.
