While Ronnie had been a horrible person on her own, there were always influences in her life that made who she was even worse. In this case, that influence was Katy Emsworth.

I watched from the sofa as Ronnie and Katy embraced each other, Katy's red painted lips pulled down into a pout. Between Ronnie and I, this was an act Ronnie was putting on for Katy's sake, as she'd finally grown out of her friendship with the girl.

"Oh, Veronica, I'll miss you so much," Katy said, tightening her grip on Ronnie.

"I'll miss you too, Katy," Ronnie replied, locking eyes with me and stifling laughter as I imitated gagging behind Katy's back.

Katy Emsworth was, to put it lightly, the spawn of Satan. And if you were to tell that to Satan I'm sure he'd be very offended. She was everything Ronnie was prior to Daddy's arrest, except times a hundred.

Believe me, hate is a strong word and I knew it. With that being said, it was safe to say that I hated Katy. As her best friend's little sister, one would expect her to show a little mercy toward me when it came to channeling out her rich bitch fury but that wasn't the case. Katy found a weird pleasure in tormenting me as if I were one of the middle class, scholarship girls at Spence that she disliked so much.

Ronnie and Katy parted from their embrace, then sat side by side together on the love seat across from my sofa, knees pointed toward each other and hands held together.

Katy sighed. "Who else will torment the poor girls on scholarships at school with me?

Maybe Katy was a horrible person, but one could at least give her credit for having been around since I was in the fifth grade and unintentionally teaching me the rights and wrongs of how you should act toward other human beings.

For example: she was a cruel, heartless, stone cold bitch; her behavior and Ronnie's all throughout their horrid four years of friendship taught me that I did not and would not ever, in fact, find any joy in stealing other's happiness. She quite possibly could've been the sole reason I had such strong morals of right and wrong.

"I just can't believe you're leaving," Katy pouted, shaking her head. "Are you sure we can't keep in touch? I really can't visit you?"

Ronnie shook her head. "I'm sorry, Katy. My mom still believes it'd be easier for me to just start anew." That was a lie. The truth was that Ronnie was just over Katy, and wanted her out of her life as soon as possible.

"Who will go to Nick's parties with me and make sure he doesn't try to feel me up when I get wasted? Who will toy with and play games on the wealthy old men our dads deal with during business and poker nights? No one gets me the way you do."
