"I had a thought." The bright grin on her face was contrasted by her companion's sigh.
"Oh no."
"I swear it's a good one this time!" She gestured to the track, already decorated for the season, to emphasize her point, then huffed when his expression remained unimpressed.
"Look, I don't know what you think you're trying to get away with, but it better not involve using magic during your track meet. You know how that worked out last time."
She grimaced, remembering the incident. It had taken weeks to clear the yard of pumpkins, vines, and other... things, and they were still finding seeds and other debris.
She scuffed the grind, glowering. "I'm not even that good at magic. I don't know how everything grew so quickly."
"...Right. Because the half-moon had nothing to do with it, and neither did the spell, or the enchanted water, or the-"
"Okay! Okay, I get it! You don't have to rub it in. I won't use magic during my Halloween track meet, even though it's the first quarter moon of the month and Aunt Wit said it's a good time for spells."
He merely raised a brow. "And because the track is near the cemetery and any magic could potentially jump-start the annual rise. We don't need any corpses or skeletons walking around in the middle of a sports event."
"That would be so interesting, though!" He shook his head.
"We don't need any trouble, Saigon. Especially since the time for witching is drawing nearer, and any uncontrolled magic could have an unforeseen effect. Meaning the apocalypse could very well start if someone does something without thinking."
