Chapter 5: A Few Months Later...

I had only been at the Boot Camp for three months, yet I’m already being released (contrary to popular belief, its not like it is in The Giver).

So, I realize that I haven't written anything for the time I've been here, but there’s actually a reason for that: nothing happened. My whole experience at the Boot Camp basically boiled down to waking up before the crack of dawn, training with sharp and dangerous weapons, eating meals that make my old school’s cafeteria look like a five-star restaurant, and learning the oh-so important information that I need to survive in the Games.

What? Oh, I’m sorry. I’m getting a little ahead of myself, aren't I? Okay, so first off, the place that I am at is called Castle Myseri, which is something known as a gateway dimension. A gateway dimension, despite what the name implies, is actually a dimension specifically designed to keep two worlds separated from each other. The two worlds in this case are the worlds of reality, which is the world I came from, and of fantasy, which is the chaotic and impossibly insane world where everything that any human has dreamt up exists (say, for instance, that’s where the characters of Yoda, Dracula, and Peter Pan live). This world takes the form of a gigantic island with a monsterous black castle in the middle because of its master, who goes by ‘the Master’ (Not the most creative title, but whatever). The Master actually has a name but doesn't like when people use it; he’s the god of chaos. The general day-to-day thing, however, is run by the Master’s second in command, the Shadow, the god of darkness (They must’ve been up all night coming up with these names). The Master and the Shadow were the two voices I heard when I was in the tornado. These two, bored with the pointless, 9-to-5 job of running the castle, created the Games. Or, in other words they made the most evil invention in the history of forever.

The Games, short for the Games of Myseri, is actually a single, ongoing challenge where fifteen year olds from the reality side face off against each other and try to find seven treasures that are scattered across the land, and the odds are completely stacked against them. Monsters from the fantasy side are released into the Games to pose a threat to us, in exchange for being released from the chaos that is the fantasy realm, and getting a free meal. Not only that, but the most dangerous and wicked monsters are often guarding the treasures.

So, my past three months here at the Boot Camp have been trying to prepare me for the utter hell that I was destined to go through. Training with deadly weapons, getting myself in shape (those obstacle courses really do wonders), and of course, trying to figure out who my patron god is.

Huh? Wait, did I do it again? Crap. Okay, so, a patron god is the god or goddess that chose you to be their champion in the Games, which basically means that you are their pawn. You fight for them and try to win the treasures, and whichever god’s champion wins the Games, is the god that has bragging rights for all eternity (no, I didn't make that up, gods are very narcissistic creatures). If you’re a champion, you will get special powers and a weapon from the god that called you, and I’ve been going crazy trying to figure out who my patron is. The god will choose you based on your talents, your appearance, your character, or various other things. Every god is restricted to only one champion at a time in the Games, and those who are working inside the Games aren't allowed a champion. I’ve gone through the list of gods, but I can’t find one in the whole list that would actually fit me.

There’s already a pawn for the gods of fire, water, ice, storm, light, stars, animals, and many more; Jolo, Motestern, Cela, Nastashia, On, Off, Kroni, Zyem, and Lite, are all working in the Games, so the can’t have champions, and then some of the gods never participate in the Games, like None, the god of creation and existence, as well as Myseri herself, the goddess of balance. Kinda sucks that None wouldn’t send one, because then the Games would have been won ages ago. Oh, well.
