7. "the really shitty idea"
Lucy stood anxiously outside the little makeshift prison cell. She could hear Rick and Michonne talking inside. If she didn't tell them tonight, she probably wouldn't buck up the courage to tell them at all.
"Hey, uh, I—I got an idea," Lucy stammered, interrupting their conversation. She stepped into the light if the moonlit window, crossing her arms nervously. She sat down next to the couple, tapping her fingers on the concrete.
"What if I go in—into the Sanctuary? He'll take me with him if I ask to go. I can kill him, Rick," Lucy explained, trying to sound firm in her decision.
"You want to assassinate him?" Rick asked gruffly.
"I'm the only one who can get close enough to do it," Lucy shrugged.
"That's a suicide mission," Michonne interjected. Lucy dropped her gaze, not wanting to look at Michonne's worried stare.
"We can't guarantee that the Saviors will fall apart just because he's dead," Rick agreed.
"It's worth a shot," Lucy argued, shrugging her shoulders nonchalantly.
"Are you sure you can do this?" Rick asked, his eyes softening.
"He's your husband, Lucy. You sure about this?" Michonne asked.
"You guys are my family, too. I've got to at least try to make this world a little safer for Carl and for Judith and for that little baby inside Maggie. I've got to," Lucy sighed, tears welling up in her eyes. Michonne reached out gently, placing her hand on Lucy's knee reassuringly.
"Which one do you want more?" Lucy asked suddenly.
"What?" Rick asked, cocking his head.
"Eugene or Daryl. Which one do you want more?" Lucy clarified.
"Eugene is too much of an asset now. I can probably bargain for Daryl," Lucy added.
"Lucy—" Rick argued.
"I'm leaving for the Hilltop tomorrow morning. I can't go without making sure Maggie's alright. I'll have Carl draw me up a map to the Sanctuary," Lucy interrupted. Rick nodded, knowing there was nothing else to argue. She stood up, walking back towards the exit.
"Will you two see me off in the morning?" Lucy asked, looking back at them over her shoulder. They smiled sadly at her, nodding kindly.

Lucy stared at the empty road outside the open gate. Everything looked more menacing when you knew you weren't coming back. Even the trees stared at her with brutal eyes, warning her to stay inside the gates.
