Chapter 15
I finished the first draft of my article for the November issue and curiously watched Sarah's eyes as they trailed up and down the two pages filled with five days of intense research. It wasn't easy to find do-it-yourself Thanksgiving decorations when the only decorations on my mind were for the EPAA Gala. I had somehow found some tips and tricks online and from word of mouth that hopefully she'd find impressive.
"Good," She stated once she finished and handed it back. "It needs more personality, though. I feel like I'm just reading instructions more than an article."
"More personality," I noted. "Got it."
Sarah eyed me while twirling her curls through her fingers. "What?"
I blinked at her, "What?"
"You're smiling like a little kid getting ice cream," She arched her brows. "Are you happy about something?"
I couldn't even feel my face curving upwards. It had been in a permanent grin since my date with Nate and I had no idea how to stop it. It's as if my body was subconsciously smiling without a real reason. My mind flooded with thoughts of our romantic date on the waters but I did my best to hold it together. "I'm in a good mood today."
"Hm," She shrugged. "As long as you can get that good mood to start talking in that article, I'm all for it."
I nodded while she hid away back in her cubicle and I plopped down behind my desk. I hadn't even opened my laptop before Kevin was already hovering over me like a shadow.
"Long time no see Haley," He greeted me. He appeared very clean cut in a white polo and navy pants but my brain was focused on his face instead. Behind the new black-framed glasses, his eyes lit up.
"Since when did you get glasses?" I asked. He looked great with the new specs. I couldn't keep my eyes off them and how they shaped his face perfectly.
He tapped the side. "Just got them in yesterday. I'm no longer a part of the twenty-twenty vision club. Do they look okay? It's my first time wearing them out."
"They look amazing on you," I said truthfully. "Like, amazing."
His smiled, pleasing my beating heart. "Thanks. I wasn't sure how everyone else was going to react after Tony laughed for about five straight minutes when he first saw me."
"You can't actually base everyone else's expectations off of Tony," I laughed. "I assure you, they look great. They frame your face well."
"That's true, I never take him seriously anyway. And thanks, always good to get a compliment from a girl."
"If you ever need an ego-booster, I'm right here."
He laughed. "I'll keep that in mind. I actually swung by to let you know we've got the supplies for the centerpieces in. So, whenever you're ready, we can put them together."
"Oh yeah," I nodded, letting my head center back on work. "Uh, sure, maybe once I finish the editing my article. What else did we need to get done?"
"I've already ordered the banner for the entrance and hallways. You can get the red carpet and ropes."
I typed a list down in my notes. "Got it. And where are we on drapes and tablecloths?"
He clicked his tongue. "Crap, I totally forgot about that. I'll call some people up. You said gold drapes and white tablecloths right?"
I nodded. "I already submitted the rental request for the tables and chairs too. They should be coming in the night before the EPAA Gala for set up."
