Aubrey's POV

"Aubrey!! Mandy is here" , I hear mom shout from downstairs.
"Aubrey!!", "Yes mom I'm coming!", my mom is so impatient sometimes.
*rolls eyes*
Mandy is my best friend, we've been friends since we were little kids. Her dad and mine were good friends, like brothers really, that was of course before the accident.
"Took you long enough", Mandy pulls me into a tight hug. You'd swear we haven't seen each other in ages but I saw her at school earlier.
"It takes time for me to look this perfect", I joke. We're going out tonight, a girls night we call it but in actual fact we're just going out for food then end the night with a sleepover at Mandy's.
"Enjoy your night Butterfly, remember we have a long day tomorrow so don't come back too late", I give mom a hug and kiss her goodnight. Sometimes I feel bad for leaving her alone, I think she's lonely but pretends not to be.

Mandy and I get into the car. I put the radio on and browse for a song to play. She has the most weirdest playlist ever.
"The usual?","Yeah that's fine","Cody's it is then", Mandy says then looks at me like she's trying to figure me out.
"Mandy if you keep staring at me while you're driving, you're going to kill us", I look at her with a little smile. Ever since the accident, Mandy has been walking on eggshells around me, she feels guilty but I have no idea what for, what happened wasn't her fault, it was no ones fault.
"You need to stop that", I briefly look out the window then back at her, "I told you I'm fine, I'm feeling much better, the best I've ever felt in a long time".
Today is the day I tell Mandy that I'm moving away. Mom and I decided it's what's best. A fresh start.

As soon as we get to Cody's the atmosphere changes, the tension is gone and excitement fills the air. We walk inside and sit at our usual booth. Somehow it's always open for us. Guess it's just luck or we just have great timing. The waitress comes by and takes our orders.

"OMG you won't believe who I saw at the mall yesterday! Joey Hark!", Mandy starts to blush. She's had the biggest crush on him since we came to high school, he's a year older than us.
"I don't get why you don't just talk to him. It's not like he's untouchable. And you got his number from that house party we went to. Text him hi and just see what happens.", Mandy looks at me like I've grown an extra head, "Are you completely out of your mind! He is like thee hottest guy in our school and you want me to just randomly text him hi! Why would he even open my text or better yet reply?!", I laugh at how she's freaking out, it's quite amusing. The waitress brings our milkshakes. I dip my straw into Mandy's and she dips her straw into mine. We take one long sip of each other's milkshakes then put our straws into our own milkshakes. Weird right? I know, it's this thing we always do, it's become second nature really.

Cody's is our hangout spot, we like the 60's vibe it has, with the red and white booths and the jukebox and checkered red and white floors. We believe we were born in the wrong era. We've been coming here often since we were about 16 years old and were finally allowed to go out by ourselves without adult supervision, our fathers were paranoid but I think it's because we're so good looking and boys are trouble. I smile at my random thought of our fathers sitting a few booths away watching us, making sure no boys spoke to us when we were younger. Good times.

"Mandy you're a beautiful girl, I don't get why you're so scared to speak to the guy.", Mandy is blonde, like bright blonde and has the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen. I don't think she realizes how beautiful she is really. "That's easy for you to say, you practically look like you live on an island that's always sunny, your skin is perfectly tanned and you have bright hazel eyes and curly light brown hair. Guys actually like talking to you and you don't seem to be bothered when they do, me on the other hand when a guy speaks to me I say stupid random things and my palms start getting sweaty and my brain fails to form proper words", I laugh loud at what she says. It's true, Mandy is a nervous wreck when it comes to guys. I don't know if she's just scared of guys talking to her or she's just shocked it's actually happening.
