Prologue

There was only a moment after the ion cannon fired off, a moment which was stilled, seemingly unending. Keith held his breath, almost as if he were to exhale, the whole universe would come crashing down. His lungs were aching from the lack of air, and the moment ended. Keith still held his breath, and for all he knew, so did the rest of the universe.

A blinding light, followed by a deafening blast overcame the paladins, slow at first, yet growing increasingly louder, stronger. Keith's stomach lurched as he realized no matter how long he held his breath, this would happen sooner or later. He gave in at last, relieving his lungs from the ache of no fresh oxygen, if you could even call what he was breathing 'fresh'. He felt a warm tear rolling down his cheek as he saw the floating remnants of one of the lions. Which one, he couldn't tell for a few seconds, until he saw the colors across one of the sheets of metal. The color blue.

Keith inhaled sharply, a soft cry of despair barely being contained by his lips. He wanted to sob, to cry until he could cry no longer. He wanted the comfort of somebody to hold him, to soothe him until he felt even the slightest bit of joy from that somebody's lame jokes and corny pick-up lines. But that somebody was gone now, as far as Keith could see. Nobody could truly comfort and soothe him again. But alas, there wasn't a body.
