"School sucks," Wren mumbles, swinging her arm lazily to open the car door.
"You literally do nothing whether we have school or not. Why are you complaining?" I roll my eyes.
"True, but I have to wake up so early."
"You mean five minutes before we have to leave?" I snort with laughter.
"Says the person who wakes up only ten minutes earlier than me," Wren snorts back. "Your hubby is here by the way," Wren motions in the direction behind me with her head.
I turn to see Vincent's car pulling up and a knot forms in my throat. He hasn't texted me since New Year's and I haven't found a good way to explain everything to him. I'm not even sure I know what happened myself.
"Why are you standing there like an idiot? We're going to be late," Wren calls after me, hopping into the back seat of Vincent's car.
I nervously approach the passenger seat and slide inside. Vincent immediately whips his face towards me.
"Are you mad at me?" he asks, his eyes wide and lips pouting like a sad bunny.
"No, I-I thought you were mad at me," I shake my head.
"Is this how you guys greet each other every morning? Maybe try saying 'hi' first," Wren comments from the back seat.
"You haven't been answering my texts," Vincent continues. "I couldn't find you downtown either."
"Actually..." I pause. "I didn't go."
"Wait, what? But you said you were about to leave on the phone," Vincent asks, confused.
"I saw her getting dressed. Well, I guess it wasn't really 'dressed' because she looked a mess."
"Thanks, Wren," I said sarcastically.
"You're welcome."
"Anyways," I revert back to the topic, taking a deep breath in. "IsomehowgotdrunkatapartyandLukefoundme-"
"Woah, woah. Slow down," Vincent stops me.
"Sorry," I sigh. "I got drunk at a party and I don't remember how or why. Luke found me and took me to Greg's house and I crashed there."
"Why did he take you to Grayson's?"
"That's not important-"
"That's pretty important."
"Well I don't know why anyways..."
He doesn't even bother to ask about the party.
There's a pause before Wren interrupts.
"Hey, sorry to interrupt your cute-couple arguing session, but I think we're going to be late to school..." She scans our expressions and leans back on her seat. "Eh, never mind. I don't like English class anyways."
"Listen, Vincent. All I know is that I meant to go to the light parade and things just got messed up-"
"It's okay."
"How was it though? Did Veronica like it?"
"She did, but she was sad she didn't get to see you. She wore the turtle tutu you gave her."
"I'm sorry."
"It's alright. Oh, yeah. We ran into Maddy while we were looking for you."
"Maddy was there?"
"Yeah, I was surprised she was there alone. I thought she would've gone with Luke, but she was there all alone."
Alone? Is that why she was mad at me? Did I ruin her date with Luke? But then how did he find me at that party?
