“RUN LIKE THE WIND, BULLSEYE!” were the last words I heard before running out of the pharmacy, dodging bullets and struggling to keep a secure grip on Talia.
“We’re gonna die…” she kept repeating.
“No we’re not, shut up,” I said. She appeared to take it literally, but when I looked down I found her eyes closed. “Hello? Don’t make me look like I’m talking to myself…”
I ignored my own comment and continued running, until I got to a Starbucks nearby. I opened the door and walked in holding the unconscious Talia in my arms. When I got to the counter, they gave me weird looks. I never understood why, though.
“What can I get for you, sir?” the cashier said, not even looking up. Once she did, though, she jumped back. “Oh my gosh! You’re Liam Pa- wait a minute…”
“I’ll have a Vanilla Frappuccino,” I said, and felt Talia twitch under my grip of her over my shoulder. “Make that two.”
“Uh, okay,” she said, jotting down a few orders on two cups and handing them to another girl, who began making the drinks. I slowly set Talia down on a chair and stood in back of her, holding her head up so that it kind of looked normal. I mean, all that was different was that her eyes were closed. “Name please?”
“Liam Payne.”
“Um, excuse me, young man, do you need any help? It seems that girl is-“ an old man asked me, but I cut him off.
“She’s deaf and mute, okay!? A Helen Keller of this century…” I muttered.
“Liam Payne!” one of the workers yelled. I positioned Talia’s arms on the table so that her head could fall on them and make it look like she was asleep before running and fetching the drinks.
“If you put whipped cream on it that would be nice…” I said, handing my drink back to the worker. She gave me a weird look and did as asked. When she handed the drink back to me, I sipped the creamy, deliciousness and sat in front of Talia. “So, how’s life?”
Silence.
“Okay, so don’t say anything…” I said, and finished off my drink. I tossed the cup in the trash and thought of something. “If you love me, don’t say anything.”
Her eyes fluttered open, and she said, “Liam?”
“Damn it…” I said, punching the table with my fist.
“Ooh, is this mine?” she inquired, pointing at the Vanilla Frappuccino. I nodded, and she continued, “I wish my boyfriend did stuff like that for me!”
“Speaking of which, what’s his name?” I asked.
She snorted and rolled her eyes before saying, “Dominic.”
“Oh,” I said, and felt a familiar tap on my shoulder.
“So she’s deaf and mute, ey? You don’t say?” the old man inquired, pointing at Talia.
“What’s he talking about, Liam?” she asked, putting her empty cup down. “I’m not deaf and mu-“
She was interrupted by shrill screams, and I turned around just in time to see a bunch of girls stampeding towards the door. I looked back at Talia and the door again, confused as to what I should do.
“Over here!” the cashier whisper-yelled, opening the back door. “Go.”
“Thank you,” I said, threw Talia over my shoulder again, and ran out of the little Starbucks. I could feel her kicking my chest and punching my back, but ignored it as I ran back to the pharmacy.
“Where are we going?” she asked. “And put me down!”
“Back to the pharmacy,” I replied.
“Liam…” Talia said, and gasped.
“What?”
“PAPARAZZI!” she yelled, and I quickened my pace, setting her down at the entrance. We ran inside, and found the rest of the group in a doggy pile. “What the…”
“Can we join in on the group hug?” I asked, a bit impatient to get away from the cameras. I knew they would go away as soon as they saw the robbers.
“TALIA! YOU’RE NOT UNCONSY!” Niall said.
“He means unconscious,” Harry croaked. Monica threw all three boys off of her and darted towards her sister, tackling her with a hug.
“Why did you come back?” Monica asked.
“We missed you guys,” I replied, shrugging.
“Well, did you bring the police?”
Talia let go of Monica and smacked me on the back of the head with a magazine she had been holding.
“Oi!” I said. “Okay! I knew we forgot something!”
“HEY! EVERYONE ON THE FLOOR OR YOU’RE ALL GETTIN’ SHOT,” Michelangelo said, walking in. “Oh, look who decided to show up. Are you stupid or something?”
“Nah, I’m the stupid one,” Louis said, smiling at the robber. I face palmed.
“Um, no. I am!” Harry said. He and Louis began a quarrel over whoever was stupid.
“You should all know that I’m the rightful St. Stupid, okay?” Niall said, still chewing on Louis’ candy bar that he had stolen.
“Niall’s a better robber than the robbers!” Zayn said, but then all the color drained out of his face when he saw that da Vinci was in front of him with a gun pressed to his forehead.
“Well, what are you waiting for!? GET DOWN!” da Vinci said, coming behind Michelangelo. Talia and I seemed to smile at each other as we fell on the floor.
“What did you two do while you were gone?” Harry asked. We both flushed a deep crimson.
“I’ve got a boyfriend!” Talia said.
“And I’ve got a girlfriend, that I have happily been with for two years,” I firmly stated.
“Ugh, bo-ring,” Harry said, making a hand gun and pointing it at his own head.
“Harry seems to be a sass queen,” Talia said.
“HEY, NO! I’M THE SASS QUEEN!” Louis said.
“Um… Will all of you teenagers shut up!?” the cashier said, speaking up for the first time in a while.
“NO!” we all shouted together.
