"Could you tell me about your parents Seth?"
"My mom and dad, Ingrid and Walter Klaus were high school sweethearts, after they both graduated high school, they went off to college together, graduated and got married, it had been three years into their marriage and they couldn't have kids, it was a tough time for them. In 1955 my mom and dad decided to adopt."
"Tell me more about the adoption"
" They went to the Riversville adoption agency, upon getting there my parents planned on getting one kid, but they got two black infants instead, a boy, and a girl because they didn't want to split them up. They always said they didn't care what color the baby was, but I know its a lie, I like to believe they settled for what they got. I came along 5 years later unexpectedly, it was a huge surprise to them because the doctor had told them it wasn't going to be feasible." Seth replied.
"Do you think I look good in this orange jumpsuit? Orange hasn't always been my color". Seth asked James.
"I mean it i-". James was about to speak before getting interrupted by Seth.
"Because right now I feel inferior next to you while you're wearing your fancy black suit". Seth said with a taunting smile.
"Would you rather have me in a jumpsuit as well?"
"If you want to. Orange goes well with black doesn't it?"
"I'd rather not, let's continue, shall we?, Tell me what your childhood was like". James diverted back to the questions.
"I have beautiful memories of my childhood, we were a happy family, we did everything together. My father was an engineer and my mum a college lecturer, we had money, lived in a big house with my siblings, Kyle and Petra.
"What was your relationship like with Kyle and Petra?"
"We were cool, I guess, we had a regular brother-sister relationship....atleast until high school."
"What led you to the hate towards African Americans even though you grew up with two of them?"
"Hmmm...I believed they stole my parents away from me, Kyle and Petra I mean. You see, when we entered high school so many things changed for me and well...for them"
"What do you mean?". James questioned curiously.
"When we got into high school Kyle and Petra got all the attention from my parents and I was left out. They always felt different because they went to a predominantly white school, they experienced racism in different forms, and a whole bunch of societal issues you blacks face, my parents gave them all the care in this world James, I was left out".
Seth's eyes began to get teary, a little teardrop fell from his face but he quickly put himself back together and proceeded "I went to through shit too, but my parents never cared. I remember when we all came home on the last day of school with our grades, I rushed into the kitchen and my parents were both seated on the table counter, I was about to show them my grades but Kyle and Petra walked in and stole my spotlight, till this day they never saw my grades and the funny thing is I did better them"
"So again I ask why the hate for African Americans and not just Kyle and Petra?". James with a perplexed look on his face asked.
"I just saw them for what they are, two black adopted kids from nowhere come in and steal my biological parents from me," Seth answered. "From there my hate grew for black people, I tried as much as I could to avoid them both at home and in the outside world."
"At what age did the hate start?"
"Like I said it started in high school, I was around 14"
"At this age did you hurt any African American out of anger or have fantasies about killing them"
"I didn't have fantasies back then, but I did purposely pick fights with Kyle and Petra just to beat the shit out of them and it felt good," Seth said as he let out a little silent evil laugh.
"Damn", James uttered under his breath, he felt upset thinking about what Seth had put "teenage Kyle and Petra".
The room was quiet for a moment as James was deep in thought and Seth kept staring at James.
"Did you feel any connection towards your parents and siblings?"
"I felt and still feel unwanted towards my parents, but towards Kyle and Petra, I feel hate, but love them enough to kill them", Seth said and chuckled.
"Did you ever try to kill your siblings?"
"As surprising as it might be, I didn't. Like I said I love them enough not to kill them but still hate them.....It's complicated."
"So it is safe to say that is why you took your anger out on 30 of your victims instead of Kyle and Petra?".
"Exactly, you're such a genius James". Seth said sarcastically.
James gives a fake smile taking little offense to Seth's sarcasm.
"What was life like after high school". James asks
"We all went off to college"
"Ever thought of killing anyone then?"
"No, I didn't, I avoided every colored person that came my way because my dislike for them was growing into hate". Seth responded, obvious that question angered him.
"Would you like to take a quick break, Seth?"
"Yes, we should".
Seth got escorted by the police officer to the break room. As he left the room he stared into James' eyes knowing the next batch of the question were only going to get deeper.
