-Oh, come on Elisa!- says Hayley, my little sister-. Please, take me to the park, I promise I will not bother you again in a month! All my other friends are in there.
She has been asking for me to take her to the park for the past 20 minutes. I know she will continue until I accept, so I decide to save time.
-Ok, but get your coat. Mom will kill me if you get sick.
She runs upstairs and, in less than thirty seconds, she's already down. I take my book and my keys, and we start walking. When we get there, Hayley go with her friends and begin to play. I sit under a tree, and open my book. The soft breeze hits my face. It's a nice day, not too cold but neither too hot. The birds' songs are my background music.
After a while, my lecture is interrupted by a weird noise. I look around, and find where it comes from. Below a tree, there's a guy. He's making a small hole in the ground, with his own hands. Besides him there's a chest. I ask my self what's in there, but he starts burying it, and I can't see it. I continue reading.
Later, when I look for the boy. He isn't there any more, but I can easily tell where did he buried the chest. The sky is a mixture of light orange and yellow. The sunset is near.
-Hayley!- I call-. Let's go!-She run to me.
-Do we have to leave?
-Yes.
-Just five minutes.
-No, come on.
-Pleeeeease!
-No.
She sighs and take my hand in our way back home.
I keep thinking about the guy and the chest. Why was he burying it? What was inside the chest? When I realize, we've already arrived.
We get in home. Hayley go to her room. I go upstairs and turn the tv on. But I don't pay attention. My mind is in the park, with the boy and his chest.
I decide something.
-Hayley! I'm going out!
-Okay!
Then, I run to the park. When I get there, I start searching for the tree. I found it quickly.
I know I shouldn't be doing this, I mean, if he buried this it was for his personal reasons, but I am a really curious person, so I can't just go home.
When I finish digging the chest and I finally have it in my hands, I open it. Inside, there's a letter.
"Dear no one:
Hello, stranger who obviously likes to gossip. My name is Logan. You're probably asking what the hell is this and why I wrote it. Well, I've been keeping a lot of feelings for the past months and I think it's time for me to let them go.
Lately, my life has been coming down, from bad to worse; my little sister, Nancy, is sick, she has leukemia, in terminal phase. My parents have to work a lot for Nancy's therapies, and I haven't seen my dad in almost a week. I'll probably have to leave school in some months for working. We don't have enough money. Also, there's the fact that my girlfriend, who was the person that most supported me, asked for "time". I know that probably we won't get back together, and it hurts.
Thank you, stranger, for helping me feel a little better, just by letting me express myself.
Sincerely,
Logan Perkins."
I read and re-read the card, again and again. The name makes echo in my head. "Logan Perkins". I suddenly get an idea. I take both the chest and the letter. I go back home.
Back in my room, I take a pen and a paper in blank. Then, I start writing.
"Dear Logan:
Hello. I'm Elisa. I saw you burying something in the park, and I couldn't resist to know what it was.
I know the feelings you have. Sometimes, I also feel my life sucks. I don't have someone who I can talk to about. I mean, I do have friends, but there's an empty space, the one where best friends should be. It's like a hole in me.
I hope we can talk more, someday.
Sincerely,
Elisa Mason."
I think that's good. I go to sleep.
The next day, in morning, I go downstairs, for breakfast. My mom is taking her jacket, ready to go.
-Hi, mom.
-Hey, honey, good morning.- she says, and gives me a kiss- I'm going to work.
-But it's just 7:30!
-Yes, sweetheart, but I have to go. Say hi to Hayley from me.
-Ok, mom. Bye.
-Bye.
She goes.
I eat my breakfast, with Hayley, who just get down.
I take a shower. After that, I get back to the park and burry the chest, with Both cards.
