Kaycee and Sean DON'T KNOW each other in this one!!! Oh, and an important author's note about why this took so long is at the bottom!
There Kaycee sat, in her room, in front of her window. She was contemplating whether her mum would be angry with her for chickening out last minute or not. Never had she been this nervous for an audition.
'No-one is going to enjoy your performance. Why would they choose a choreo about a broken heart, a solo, when you can portray love so much better as a duo? You'll make a fool of yourself...'
That were the kind of thoughts that occupied her mind for the last week. She tried to ignore that little irritating voice in her head, but somehow, whatever she was doing, she always ended up worrying about this audition.
She shouldn't do this. Eventually, it would end in dissapointment, and she didn't think she was strong enough to handle that. Not with this one.
Kaycee made up her mind. She'd just go to Nika's class instead of the audition.
Just as she was about to go downstairs and undoubtedly face her mum's wrath for changing her plans last minute, Laura swung the door of her bedroom open and exclaimed:
"Come on, we're going to be late if we don't leave now. I'll pick you up after the audition to go to Julia's. I promised her I'd bring you with me, she hasn't seen you in such a long time! Are you ready?"
Her mum had made plans afterwards. That meant she couldn't back out anymore.
Shit.
Kaycee had no choice but to put up a brave smile, take her dance bag and follow her mum to the car.
*********"Welcome to the audition's for Sia's new dancers!"
Brian Friedman's voice boomed through the large room. It was some sort of waiting room, where Kaycee, along with all the other contestants, was listening to one fourth of the judges.
"I know you're all dying to go in the audition room and show your insane dancing skills, but before we start with that, I want to explain the audition a bit more for you guys."
He looked around the room, almost as if he could gauge their talent by making eyecontact with the contestants. It gave Kaycee shivers.
"First of all, I'd like to say that there is no such thing as a wrong choreography. The song 'love' is, evidently, about all sorts of love. So don't be afraid to do something completely different than the others. Be yourself, be unique. If you do just that, the sky is the limit.
Secondly, I want to go over some real practical arrangements: because you're such a big group of contestants, we decided to put you in this waiting room. We're going to call you in to do your audition one by one. Every time, we'll pick a random name on our list. That means you don't know when you'll have to do your audition. It's only fair for you to all have equal chances. The room broke out into murmurs. This was something completely different than what they were used to. Not knowing when they had to audition? It surely didn't help calming their nerves.
"That's about it. Good luck everyone!"
Brian Friedman turned around an disappeared behind a big mahony door. The people in the room began practising their choreo, talking in groups, some even meditating.
'I should probably stretch', Kaycee thought.
And that's exactly what she did.
