A Little Peek...

-Why hello there everyone. I have come up with the very basic framework of the plot for the new story (still no estimated time yet, sorry). So I decided that just for the fun of it I would give out a little prologue or teaser or whatever it is called. I had gotten some inspiration and decided to try something different. I let my friend read it early. He said, and I quote, "The feels! You shoulda warned me!"

I guess that is a good thing? A bad thing? *shrug*

I guess I'll just have to find out...

-Many years earlier-

The war was coming to an end.

How did I know? I wasn't a part of the fighting, nor was my daughter. We were living our lives out in the wild just as we should've been. So how did I know? Well, it wasn't hard to miss.

Something with a shining light and with a tail of clouds had been launched into the sky, soon followed by many more. A neighbor I considered nothing more than a lunatic said this would happen, and that it would bring widespread destruction in it's wake. I didn't believe him.

Until now.

"Mum?" Came an innocent voice. I slowly tore my eyes away from the flying object and looked down to my daughter who was snuggling her brown fur against my chest, blinking her eyes at me slowly.

"Yes, dear?" I replied, barely keeping a steady voice.

She looked around her at the few pokemon who hadn't run for the hills yet. "Where is everyone going? I thought this was home?" She questioned worriedly.

I held back my tears. She had no clue what was going to happen. If what that lunatic said was true, she would die not knowing. Not knowing what was happening around her, never understanding. Never finding the love of her life. Never experiencing evolution. Never.

I swallowed down the lump in my throat, "w-well Pearl, they are going to hide." I mentally face-pawed. She shouldn't have to be afraid in her last moments.

Pearl stared at me, confused, "Oh, is it cuz of that light? Mr Rattata said that is a bad thing, said he was scared of it." She replied, still not quite understanding.

"He was just teasing you, Pearl. He didn't mean any of that." I lied, trying to hold back my tears and nearly failing.

"Oh, okay." She looked down at her paws and fiddled with a blade of grass innocently. I looked back up to the sky, the object was moving faster now. Which meant it was close. Dropping my head back down I nuzzled my daughter for perhaps the last time.

"How about we play a game? You wanna play a game?" I asked.

Her head shot up and she smiled, "what kind of game Mum?"

I forced a smile, "how about some hide and seek? Count to thirty and cover your ears, then go look for all the pokemon hiding."

She gasped, "is that why they are hiding? They wanna play with me?!" I nodded, one tear finally escaping. She didn't seem to notice though.

She covered her ears with her paws and closed her eyes as instructed. Then she started counting, "One, two, three, four..."

I laid my head on top of hers and looked up at the light as it moved faster and closer. I then closed my own eyes.

She never made it to thirty.
