A DAY EARLIER
"Tessie, where are the files for the Cielo project that I need to personally review?" I ask my assistant as I look through the piles of folders on top of our conference room table.
"Attorney, nilagay ko na po sa office desk nyo."
"Oh okay. Thank you. Can you please call the rest of the team for a meeting after lunch here in the conference room? I just want to go over our timeline for next week."
"Yes, attorney."
I realize that I am starving and that I have not eaten anything since my caramel macchiatto earlier this morning.
Chicken Cesar Salad or Lasagna? Hmmmm....I stare at the sign at our building cafeteria contemplating what I should get for lunch.
"You should get the lasagna and toss in some garlic bread sticks too, then wash it down with an ice cold Coke." I look around and its Rafael Costanera, the handsome son of the owner of the company that I work for. Actually, handsome is a freakin' understatement. This guy could pass for a ramp model. Twenty six years old, tall, mestizo, grayish eyes, side swept hair that kinda hangs over his right eye and a kick ass body! Not that I've seen it or anything. One can only imagine! But seriously, for someone that looks good enough to eat, rich and smart, this guy is very down to earth and has no trace of super ego in his personality. Unless of course your one of the girls that make the mistake of throwing themselves at him. Then his super conyo attitude comes out. That I've seen happen and its actually quite amusing to witness. He becomes aloof and close to being rude!
"Well it looks like you know what your having for lunch Raf" I smile at him.
"What I really want for lunch I can't have" as he smirks at me and wiggles his eyebrows up and down.
"Oh hell no! We've had this talk before and the answer is the same."
A few months ago I made the mistake of going out on a date with him. We actually went out on a few dates over a span of a few weeks. That was before I found out he was the owner's son and is the VP of Finance for La Costanera Developers who is being groomed to be COO and eventually CEO of the company. Then I told him I did not want to date him anymore. He was not happy with it and has been trying to get me to out with him again.
I have a strict rule of not dating anyone I work with. Hell, most especially if its the owner's son. I just find it wrong or conflict of interest or something. Call me weird.
"Ok chill lady! How about joining me for lunch and nothing else. I have not talked to you in a while and I miss you."
"Fine. Go get the lasagnas and bread sticks and I'll get the Cokes."
We meet at the cashier where he insists on paying for our meal. I don't want to cause a scene so I let him pay for it. I find us a table for two by the windows and we seat ourselves.
"So, still pining for that first love of yours Ms Attorney?"
"Hello to you too Mr VP of Finance. How are you doing these days?"
"Ha ha ha...still a touchy subject with you eh?"
"When do you think you'll get over that first love of yours so I know when I can truly have a chance with you?"
"Raf, I seriously don't know what you are talking about."
"Maricris, until you acknowledge the fact that you are still in love with your ex-boyfriend and you move on you can't be really, truly happy. Case in point, what beautiful, smart, sexy 24 year old chooses to bury herself in work when she could be out and about dating up a storm with an equally handsome guy like me?" Wow, he's humble!
